Gran Torino again this was an 8/10 for, I cant believe it wasn't nominated for any Oscars. Clint plays the "racist old white guy" very well. He is still a bad ass in front of the camera to.

Gran Tarino was a good, and very entertaining movie.. but it CERTAINLY didnt deserve an Oscar nomination. The reason being, the overall acting was simply TERRIBLE.. which was partly the reason why I found the movie to be hilarious.

burn after reading - good movie. certainly invites lebowski and fargo comparisons: take a genre movie, trap normal people in it, leading to absurdist farce. good acting from malkovich and the cloon and mcdormand, and that coen mainstay who plays the gym manager.

people were expecting another NCFOM from it, that's why the reviews were not that good.

No, anything with Bill Murray is either over-rated (Lost In Translation) or unwatchable, yes, even with Ghostbuster.

    Although I disagree with this........

I disagree with this even more. Groundhog Day was a very good movie but Bill Murray is not a horrible guy to have in a movie. I've always liked his humor and his style. LiT was a horrible movie but not because of Murray. No actor could have made that movie any better.

    Mr. Majestyk

    8/10

Another great Bronson flick (I've been on a Bronson kick for a while)! Absolute great co staring job by the one and only Al Lettieri. Whom some might remember from "The Godfather". Very underrated flick, and very recommended!:bears:

    Tropic Thunder

    7/10

Hard to rate this movie and hard to express how I feel about it. For one, great job on just about everybody who was in it. Robert Downey Jr. was hilarious, but I could barely understand what the hell he was saying most of the time. Stiller was very good also as was Nick Nolte. It's similar to "Hot Fuzz" in that I find it to be just an entertaining flick,as compared to a comedy. Cause this movie seemed too serious for a comedy, and too funny to be a serious flick.

    Disorganized Crime

    9/10

Fucking hilarious and very underrated movie. Lou Dimaond Philips,Fred Gwynne,Ruben Blades,Corbin Bernsen and Ed O'Niel are just outstanding in this typical late 80's comedy. Also watching this and "My Cousin Vinny",made me realize it was a shame Hollywood never used Fred Gwynne to his full potential in his later years. Guy was a seriously underrated actor. If you haven't seen this flick,rent/buy it asap!! You won't be disappointed:bears:

Watchmen review from Brazil (from another forum, it's not a pro review):

And the Movie is not bad at all. Very faithful to the comics, a huge effort to adapt it without betraying the essence of the things. Minor changes (some not smart, but almost unoticable), cool solutions, amazing Rorschach, funny soundtrack and even the use of the complicated flashbacks of Alan Moore are there...
It is smaller, much of the past is gone, most stuff that makes the book richer, also a great deal about the society, how it lives and react, gone, but at least in the begining (the two Comedians arcs) it is almost all there... the credit opening was a nice solution with some nice scenes as well... It didnt became an action movie, almost no violence was added (The Storyboard only makes the original work of Dave Gibbons more amazing), no fighting scene (altough Silk Spectre was too cool, a total model and Nite Owl - the second version of both - a bit too heroic, strong), Ozymandias was incridible gay but then... he is some short of Glam Hero... The comic book still superior, I may start to bitch after viewing a second time, but if it takes that long it can not be that bad...

Jennifer Connelly's character is annoying as hell, she is more pissed with her husband's smoking habit than his affair with Johanssen, :dunno:

I LOVED Watchmen... it's a real unusual superhero movie with overwhelming visual effects, extreme brutality and overall a very entertaining 3 hours.

I'd give a 10/10 with a trace of excitement left comparable to that shortly after watching a great boxing match - so i might be a bit biased still.

I gotta watch this shit. Ebert gave it 4 of 4 stars and even that film snob Jim Emerson, that blogs on Eberts site, loves it.

I think I'm going to try and catch it at an IMAX theatre if I get the chance.

Well i hope i don't get anybody expecting too much. That's another effect parallel to boxing matches - when you hear how good a fight was beforehand u might get disappointed (happened to me with the last Barrera-Morales fight, which was very good but not all that great to me).

BUT i can't see how this movie fails on an IMAX theatre - i whished i'd seen it there...

actually nobes, what the fuck are you on about - 46% fresh at rottentomatoes top critics.

    http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/m/watchmen/?critic=creamcrop

as expected, it sounds like it's beautifully-styled, bloated, and slavishly 'faithful' to the comic book. oh fanboys, is there no end to your anally retentive demands?

i return to my original prediction for panchy's review: 7/10

Rooster, I used to read all these "Adult" style comics all the time but somehow I missed this one.

I've purposely avoided it now. I don't want my expectations from the comic to ruin my enjoyment of this movie.

Personally I love Zach Snyders overblown, melodramatic and artistic style of film-making. I don't care how faithful or unfaithful it is to the original material...............same way I didn't care how historically accurate "300" was. I just want to have a good time and be manipulated by the images and dramatics of the thing.

I know a lot of people will not like this movie, or will pretend to not like this movie.............but I know I'm going to love this shit. Last movie I've gotten to see at the movie theatres was "Marley & Me" and I've already completely forgotten about it. :shit: I'm ready to be blown away by some crazy over the top MAN shit. Sadly, I think I'm going to wait until next weekend to see it.

As for Panchy. I'll leave the chick flicks and dog movies to him. :shit:

im thinking the opposite is more likely - fanboys desperate to like it. they've been given what they asked for (carbon copy of the comic book), so they have to be happy.

300 was a success, for me. i liked the stylisation in 300 and sin city, and overall i thought they worked, simply because they were so unrelentingly committed to a vision, and that vision was fairly original, daringly absurd. but im guessing watchmen is going to suffer from overplotting, a bit like dark knight - too many plot developments, with not enough emotional engagement to back them up.

I saw Broken Flowers the other day, typical Jarmusch in many ways. There is a pretty fit 19 year old girl that appears on screen fully naked, which was a scene I thought you might appreciate. I recommend it.

    No.

I'm also not bothered by sub-titles and I absolutely hate, hate, hate voice dubbing unless it's an animated film where it doesn't matter as much.
