There is really no downtime in this movie, unlike say, LOTR, when you see Liv Tyler on the screen you know it's bathroom time.

Eric Bana's Nero is the bad dude in this movie, Tyler Perry had 2 scenes in the movie, glad to see him out of drag for a change.

    3:10 To Yuma:

Hacky Western. Over the top action. Ridiculous plotting. The Western moral cliches pounded right into your face. The good man with the unmovable, stubborn sense of morality. The bad man who has no conscience but really does.

That said..............I loved it. Bale and Crowe were great while Ben Foster annoyed me once again with his Napoleonic approach to acting..........but it kind of worked anyways.

The polar opposite of "Assasination of Jesse James", which was quiet, smart and populated with short realistic bursts of violence instead of over the top action scenes.

    I loved both of them.

I went to see Star Trek last night - great movie action packed from the get go. I thought the casting was also spot on - the only thing that pissed me of about the movie was that I was sitting in front of some trekkies and every time they made a reference to the old crew they would cheer or laugh like school children - that became rather annoying.

    None the less 9/10

I'm not going to post my reviews for Wolverine and Star Trek because they've both already been done to death. I just want to say this about Wolverine:

Liev Schreiber as Sabertooth was fucking awesome. You rarely see a guy get so much into this type of character without getting the sense that they actually feel a little foolish playing it but I didn't get that from Schreiber at all. He really seemed to get into it and seemed to be enjoying himself at the same time. He actually seems more into that character than Jackman as Wolverine. Maybe he was hoping for his own spinoff.

I don't really have an interest in seeing Wolverine but Schrieber is an under-rated actor. He's solid no matter what he's in.

Better then "The DaVinci Code" but still kind of ehhhhh. The book was also better so it's not much of a stretch for the movie to surpass it to.

Really didn't get going until the last 45 minutes or so. Not to say there wasn't any action but it just seemed very bland to me. Twist at the end might be enjoyed better if you hadn't read the book already.

The killer was really underdeveloped in the movie. A beautifully filmed and good looking movie but like The DaVinci Code.............just kind of blah.

    TERMINATOR SALVATION

    SCORE: 5.5/10

    GENRE: ACTION

PREMISE - Story takes place in the middle of the Skynet vs humans war. After sabatoging one of skynets holdouts, the humans find a possible weapon transmitter that could end the war. Conner meets with the top chain of command and is given the task of testing the new weapon. Meanwhile a very human like Terminator awakens and begins his quest to find Skynet command. He thinks he's a human and meets some of the resistance and assits them along the way. Him and Connor eventually team up but is this new Terminator really friend, or foe?

CRITIQUE - Writing all that makes the movie sound pretty good and maybe it could have been. Unfortuneatley the director felt it more important to put action scene after action scene in the movie rather than focus on character and/or story development. Who is John Connor? You never really get to know him because Sam Worthington as the new terminator's character gets more screen time and development in this movie than Bale does. We know the Terminator feels unworthy of life and has regrets about the human life he once had. What do we know about Connor? Well he believes everything his mom told him and he often goes back and listens to her tape recordings as guidance, that's it. The woman who played his wife was so undeveloped that she was about 9 months pregnant and they never once discussed the kid. If you like mindless CGI action sequences and don't care much for dialouge and an in depth story, you'll likely enjoy this. However if you're hoping for a movie that flows well with the previous 3 Terminator movies and offers a deeper understanding and continuation of the franchise you'll be in for a big disappointment, IMO.

HOLLYWOOD RACIST MOMENT - I'm pretty sure there has never been a black Terminator, I'm pretty sure they don't even have a mold for black Terminators. Just thought I'd throw that out there. :dunno:

Absolutely. For the quality of acting required and screen time that was given Bale was either (A.) A supreme case of overkill or (B.) The insurance to draw in lots of fans for a crap movie. My guess is B.

They could have kept the guy from part 3 for how unnecessary Bale was IMO. 50% of Bale's job in that movie was flying through the air and slamming into shit, courtesy of the Terminators penchant for throwing the guy they want to kill away from them rather than just grabbing them and breaking their neck.

    THE READER

    GENRE - DRAMA

    SCORE - 7.5/10

    PREMISE -
A 15 year old student meets and falls in love with a woman in 60's Germany. The woman is secretly and ashamedly illiterate, so you has the young boy read many books to her daily. Problems with her inability to read force her to move away which she does unannounced to her young lover. A few years later he finds her again while she's being tried as a concentration camp guard. Will they reunite?

CRITIQUE - What can I say, I love dramas and this was no different. I'm a bit biased so if you don't have a love for good dramas this might be a bit boring to some of you. It may seem like a romance but really what the two had was more sexual so I wouldn't say that. All I know is it wasn't boring and had the make your heart cry part that most good dramas have.

BONUS - For those who give extra credit for this, there was quite a bit of female nudity and sex scenes. There was even a few penis shots for you fags out there.

    Terminator: Salvation. - 6/10

    Disappointing.

I had thought that we were finally going to get a fleshed out vision of the future hinted at in the other films. I thought I might actually get to see Judgement day occur. I was wrong.

Connor is not the main character of this film. This film is about Worthington's Marcus. Seriously, as underdeveloped as John Connor is in this film, Bale should be about 3rd in billing.

Worthington is good in his role. I quite liked his character. Bale is good also but a lesser actor could have done just as well with the part and I feel he was hideously underused.

Did you want to learn more about Connor? Don't bother watching this. Like Lb said above, all Bale does is get thrown around and yell alot.

What about his wife? After the third film, she's an important character right? She has about 4 lines in this whole film. More time is devoted to Moon Bloodgood's character and all she serves as in this film is a (admittedly very good) piece of ass.

Effects are good. Everything looks like it should. They did a good job on sets. I can't help but wonder how this film would have played out under Cameron. McG is not the world's greatest director and I do have to question the story they chose to tell in this. In the grand scheme of the franchise, I don't really see how it fits at all.

I have heard that this is the first of a trilogy, if so I may change my mind after all three are realised but as of today, this is not a good film. It's main appeal is through it's 'main' star and the franchise name.

If this wasn't a Terminator film, it would be quickly forgotten. By the same token, I most likely wouldn't have been as hard on it. This is not the payoff I think Terminator fans are waiting for.

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't think there is any reason for Bale to be cast other than name recognition. I didn't think Nick Stahl did a bad job in 3 and given the lack of any substance given to Connor in this film, he would have done just as well as Bale.

Thanks man. I had a thought about this film today and it will be SPOILERISH so if anyone hasn't seen it, don't read this.

I think the opening sequence was edited incorrectly. We shouldn't know anything about Marcus' origins until he arrives at Skynet. When he's going through the computers, we should get a flashback showing him in prison. After he gets that knowledge, he can rip out the chip as normal but it has a much stronger message this way he realises that he's been looking for redemption and now has his chance. I think we knew too much about Marcus from the start. If they wanted him to be mysterious, they should have waited on his origin exposition until the penultimate act of the film.

The fact that he was given away in trailer didn't help either.

Also, I did a bit of reading and the originally proposed ending of this film was much better. It would have been a huge downer but much more satisfying then what we received instead.

One more thing: M rating. This is THE war right? Man and against machine and we're getting slaughtered, right? I'm seriously having trouble remembering if there was even any blood in this film. After Marcus cops the mine and is chained up, there was no blood or gore to speak of.

I'm not suggesting that they should have aimed for an R rating as the criteria for that has changed drastically from the 80's but MA would have sufficed. I wanted to see complete and utter machine ruthlessness. The whole point is that humans are killed without mercy or passion. For the supposed downfall of the human race, it was surprisingly bloodless.

Just got back from Terminator and my first thoughts are... meh

I agree we shouldn't know anything about the origins of Marcus. That would have been a nice twist at the end.

The fact that this movie is 12's is also a negative. It's just not dark enough for a Terminator movie.

If there is going to be another movie McG's gotta go.

My expectations for the film were low after Da Vinci Code so I was positively surprised. This movie actually had a movie script unlike the Code which was just a book filmed. There was still a little problem with the time though: plenty of backround information was told very quickly and you really didn't get a hold of the main characters, but the movie remained exciting til the end and the twist in the plot caught me by surprise

UP Very entertaining film. The first five minutes of the films introduces and then removes an important character in the plot: the Old man's wife. In these five minutes you see them both meeting as children, growing up as big pals, getting married, aging and finally she dies. In these first minutes you end up loving her character to the point that you get emotionally moved when she passes away. This is just an example of the brilliance of this film. The only weak point of the film is its villain, typical sterotype villain which offers nothing new and its motivations are, well, lame. Also skip the 3D version: it offers NOTHING that can merit you shedding extra bucks (ALIENS VS MONSTERS 3D effects were awesome, but UP is below average in this department). Still a very good film. 8.5/10

REVOLUTIONARY ROAD So if the world was waiting for TITANIC stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet to star in another romantic tearjerker, they are in for a big letdown. Tell your wives/girlfriends not to be mislead by the DVD cover. This is far from what they expect. This is one of the most depressing films I have watched in a long time. Is basically the story of how a young couple from the 1950's in the eyes of the beholder seem to be the perfect loving couple when in reality their marriage is falling apart dramatically. DiCaprio is a decent actor and does a good job here, but Kate Winslet really carries the weight of the film up to its dramatic conclusion. She indeed deserved an Oscar for this film. Still it has moments where their fights seemed predictable and at times you feel as bored with the film as the characters are with their lives. 7/10

DEFIANCE What can I say? This is damn good film! Yeah, sometimes the director tries to confuse us with the back and forth subtitles (he should had made his mind if to film it totally in english or russian) and the forced accents were not neccesary. But, so what?! The film, based on a true story, grabs your attention since the first scenes and doesn't have a dull moment. Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell play the Bielski brothers who leaded a group of jews into the belarussian forests escaping a certain death from the nazi death squads. Not only they protect these people, they fight back too! The action is great, but the drama is even better. Great commanding performances by Craig & Schreiber. I will watch it again! 9/10
