it's a good movie, but if your wife wants to see Black Swan instead, go with her pick.

    FROZEN

    SCORE - 6/10

    GENRE - THRILLER

PREMISE - A guy accompanies his girlfriend and his best friend on a ski trip. They inexplicably create a situation where they're stranded on the ski-lift after the slopes close down at night and won't reopen until the next weekend which is 4 days away. They're stranded several feet off the ground, and have to deal with dropping temperatures and other issues too.

CRITIQUE - This movie mostly takes place in the ski lift but that's not a terrible thing. It keeps your interest and you easily empathize with the trio and began asking yourself what would you do. There were a couple points in the movie where I had to grit my teeth for what happened to one of them, but overall it's not a gory movie or even scary but it is a nice situation to watch unfold even if it did kind of end unsatisfactorily. The dialogue and acting was pretty good.

Recommendation - Worth a rental if you don't have any big block busters on your list.

    DEVIL

    SCORE - 7/10

    GENRE - HORROR

PREMISE - 5 strangers wind up on an elevator that gets stuck. As they wait to get rescued they start to get attacked 1 by 1. They don't know which person is attacking them so they each began to blame each other. The police and building security are also trying to assist them and figure out what is going on as they watch through the elevators camera system. 1 of the security members is certain it is the work of the devil and he appears to convince the lead detective as well. Is he right or just a nut case?

CRITIQUE - I enjoyed this movie as it's been on my desire to see list since I first saw the trailer. It didn't disappoint. It wasn't an awesome piece of work like Unbreakable or 6th Sense but it was a decent movie with good dialogue and acting. The pacing was fine and I liked the multiple stories that went on too like the guys trying to fix the elevator and then the cop working to figure out who the people were in the elevator and which of them had motive to attack anyone. Everything kind of jelled together in the end and although it wasn't totally scary it was a bit creepy on occasion. There was also a small amount of narration in the film which was okay too. Not a bad piece of work to get Shyamalan back on the right track, but rest assured this was just baby steps.

Recommendation - Worth watching in the theaters as well as renting or owning.

As was my original post. I was quoting a song.

Outside of the twist, I didn't think the movie was all that good either.

NCFOM was good until the last third. After that it felt disjointed. I read that this was the part where the movie deviated from the book so maybe that had something to do with it.

Watched The Way of the Dragon on xmas day. It was genuinely hilarious. 8/10

Also watched The Office - Xmas Specials. This series is as close to genius as you can get, and these 2 episodes ended it perfectly. 10/10

I've got Un Prophete on bluray to watch tomorrow night. Cannot. Wait.

I liked No Country. I disagreed with the ending but other than that it was very good.

Black Swan: Natalie Portman plays a ballerina with an overbearing, live-vicariously-through-the-kid mother, trying out for a role. Mila Kunis is another ballerina whom embodies the characteristics that she lacks (confidence, a sex life, easygoing nature) and a rival of hers. The movie has a lot of absurd and disturbing visuals, claustrophobic feel, follow shots, and a really hot lesbian scene. While the movie is more about a disturbed character than ballet, it's enough to make you never want your daughters to ever do ballet. I liked the movie.

I would also do very, very nasty things to Mila Kunis.

For Coen Brother flicks, I'm still partial to Raising Arizona. Fargo really grew on me.

She's Out Of My League Watched this last night and again today. I actually was entertained. What could have been a very cliche predictable film turned out to be a sweet but hilarious romantic comedy. The acting is very good for all characters including supporting roles. T.J. Miller as the best friend with ill advises and foul mouth is a riot. Alice Eve is smoking hot as Molly. The plot is simple: loser Kirk hits the jackpot when a hard 10 babe fixes her eyes on him. His friends cannot believe it. His family cannot believe it. He himself cannot believe it. This is a film that you can watch with your spouse or girlfriend. They'll love it. The ending was kind of too looney and didn't belong in this film as well as the testicles shaving scene. These scenes lower my score for the film, so I'll give it a 7.5/10

Un Prophete was pretty good it just occasionally seemed confused with where it wanted to go with the story/character. It had the potential to be much better. I wouldn't sit through it again and would rate it about a 6/10.

I never saw Miller's Crossing. Maybe I should check it out. Do you guys think it would hold up well by today's standards or should I just take a pass?

Cohen brothers movies are hit and miss. They hold up, but you might not have liked the movie when it came out. You just have to watch it.

"Miller's Crossing" holds up by any standards. It's my favorite Coen Bros. movie and one of my top 5 of all-time.

It is offbeat, noirish and gangsterish but it inhabits it's own world. If you're looking for "Goodfellas" or "The Godfather", it ain't it.

It might not be your cup of tea if you're looking for realism. It's entertaining as hell though.

The Salem Witch Trials I think that this was better than The Crucible in the sense that it tried to portray the whole picture of what truly happened in Salem instead of just focusing on particular characters romantic relationships like the Daniel Day Lewis version did. It has many good actors wasted though like Rebecca DeMornay who had such a minor role here. The acting of the girls is top notch. Kristie Alley ruins the film for the most part. I was repulsed by the uneeded nude scene by grandma Shirley Maclaine. The film is entertaining when it doesn't drag too long on certain scenes plus the 2 hours 20 minutes length is way too much. 6/10

Don't know if anyone mentioned it but I just saw The King's Speech.

Very good movie, all about King George VI and his struggles with a bad stammer in the face of becoming King with his brother Edward's abdication and WW2 on the horizon.

Colin Firth, Geoffry Rush, Helena Bonham Carter and Michael Gambon

I watched this over the weekend and thought it was very good. I would say that I am surprised by all of the negative reviews on it, but it almost seems like the trendy thing to do to hate on Shyamalan movies these days.

Add me to the list of people who didn't really care for True Grit. I had really crappy seats at the theater so that may have been part of it. I really enjoyed NCFOM so I don't think it's a situation where I just don't enjoy Coen movies.
