Obviously Salvador Sanchez is a tragic story.

Leon Spinks struggled a lot due to drugs and brain damage.

Freddie Mills either killed himself or was murdered.

LaMotta too. He graphically describes it in his autobiography.

The Scorsese/De Niro version of Lamotta is a saint compared to how Lamotta comes across in the book.

 

I guess since his cocaine abuse was a huge factor that eventually caused his heart issues and led to his death later on then you can consider it as overdose. I've been seeing some reports on his death saying that he died from high blood pressure and heart disease. But you can still make a case that his drug use in the past caught up with him later on that led to his heart issue.

He was, but it was a freak occurrence because he died as the result of hitting the base of his neck on the bottom rope when he was dropped. It fucked up his brain stem and killed him.

He didn't die as the result of Ramos' punches.

 

Was the million dollar baby inspired by his death?

Guy was a legitimate journeyman who came within a hair of beating Junior Jones when Jones was still worth beating. Late 90s, early 2000s guy.......

He then suffered a freak injury in a fight for the Commonwealth title (broken jaw having taken far better punches from harder hitters) and sort of fell away

He wound up in a care facility and was beaten up and murdered by his carer .

This. I'm a Chico fan, but I gotta call it straight - objectively, his ending was not sad.

He got killed riding his bike at 3x the legal alcohol limit. He was speeding while drunk off his ass. He coulda killed an innocent driver.

Hard to have sympathy.

It's not like poor Davey Moore, who was minding his fucking business when his jeep rolled down a hill on him and pinned him until he asphyxiated.

 

Exactly...... You have personal sympathy for him but at the same time its not even the same as Sal Sanchez who was trying to overtake and hit the on coming or Ken Norton who had a blowout.

Ike Williams dying in a house, alone, that was then burgled by people who walked past his body to take his tv set is sad, especially as he'd have beaten their ass in his prime and if he'd been born 50 years later he'd be living Montecito watching a TV so fuckin big it would need 10 men to carry it.

That's sad.

Evatt was like Colin Jones....he looked like a wet rag but could crack out of all proportion to his size.

His daughter muddied the pudding there a lot. She was firstly representing him 8n Court in a land deal gone south. And lost. Then she sued him in the end. Worst of all, Ali outlived him, the prospect of which must have annoyed Joe immensely.
