loma, Canelo, GGG, Spence, Usyk, Thurman and Kovy (even if he lost 2 fights) all have a much stronger resume than Crawford. Unlike MWS, I don't have much of a beef with Crawford being put at nb 5 on a p4p list, but anything higher than this is absurd.
Horn? Yes. Horn was a sacrificial lamb used for the sole purpose of getting TC an easy belt. That's why Arum paid off the judges the get Horn a win over Pac. Postol? You're either full of shit, or you're forgetting 2016 when that fight took place. Postol was considered the biggest test of Crawford's career, and thought to be a very live dog in pulling the upset. 12 rounds later, Postol doesn't win so much as a round, THEN all of a sudden Postol is a bum. An inactive Postol just gave Josh Taylor Hell less than a year ago, and Taylor is arguably the best at 140. Crawford shuts him out effortlessly and gets no credit.
What elite fighters did your top p4p beat? If you cannot name many its cool. The point is your list is as subjective as anyone else.
Nah, Crawford got full credit in professional boxing circles. Just cause a couple random dudes on this forum choose to object will not remove or diminish Crawford's ring accomplishments. Bud is cemented on top 3 p4p lists and deservedly so. Its been fun fellas, see ya'll the next time there is a good fight!
Postol was a nobody brought in as a showcase for Mathysse. He upset Mathysse who’s been shit ever since, and that’s his whole career. Same with Horn and Indongo. Crawford caught a bargain beating these guys down.
If you don't know which elite guy these guys beat or faced, it tells a lot about your boxing knowledge.
Postol is no bum. Never would I pretend that he's a great fighter, but writing him off as some scrub is just lazy Crawford hate. Less than a year ago, an older, EXTREMELY inactive Postol fought Josh Taylor on basically even terms until the last few rounds when Taylor pulled it out. He stunned Taylor once or twice along the way as well. No "bum" could do that. Postol is also good enough that Cherry Garcia ducked him.
Who cares about giving a close fight to Taylor. We still don't know if the guy is legit or not at the world class level. Postol is not a total bum, and he's in fact a fairly good fighter, but when he's the largest feather on your cap, it means that your resume is shitty for a p4p guy.
I couldn't help but think of Mayweather vs. Marquez watching this. Skilled little guy beaten up by a skilled bigger guy. Didn't put a dent in Marquez's legacy especially how he rebounded. The same will be true for Garcia depending on how he rebounds. Calling him overrated isn't necessary.
Mayweather-Marquez was the exact same situation. Floyd didnt beat Marquez purely on size. Floyd is better than Marquez. Mikey Garcia is overrated. That's not to say he isnt very good, but his skills have always been held by many in too high a regard. It's also ironic when people bring up size- when the TRUTH is, Mikey was a HUGE featherweight, and him blowing guys away at 126 definitely had a lot to do with his size advantage... but his fans never bring that up...
There's a good article currently on the Scene where the author echoes my sentiments - that Spence didn't win on size alone, he won because he's a better technician.
This is just like Floyd-Marquez in that everyone knew it was a sham when it was announced, yet the winner got full credit from casual fans afterwards. Floyd maybe a better technician than Marquez but it’s still a very different, very losable fight if they’re the same size because Marquez power matters. And it’s easier to “outbox” a smaller guy for a number of reasons. And all those reasons were on clear display in Floyd-JMM and Spence-Garcia. It’s a marketing scheme people fall for when they want to.
Mandingo warriors like Floyd and Spence deserve props for standing up to these HUGE featherweights. “He called HIM out doe!”
Mayweather-Marquez wasn't the same thing at all imo. Marquez did well vs Mayweather and managed to showcase some of his craft and land some bombs even though the size difference made it an one sided fight in Floyd's favor. Mikey just looked inept in saturday's fight and it makes me really question if he was not severly overated all along.
I thought Floyd looked like shit against Marquez but it didn’t matter because of the size difference. Like you said, Marquez landed some bombs that could’ve changed the fight around but they just happened and were forgotten. Mikey’s game is getting into punching range with his feet set so he can use his sharp offense. Spence was just too long for Garcia to get his feet into range without having to walk thru punches and the size difference meant that Spence punches moved him and made him think. When he did get his feet in range Spence was just too damn big.
Dude, either you're full of shit about being black (my opinion) or you're the single biggest Tom I've ever seen.
I’m highlighting your bias, brougham. And I only take the Tom thing as an insult because Anthony posts here.
I have to assume you remember Floyd-JMM wrong (or instead I do). Jmm landed one good bomb, in the second round, and ten seconds later he was on the floor. After which it was a sparring session. At least here Spence put on some serious heat and Mikey demonstrated some chin and guts, if little else. The difference was imo that we knew more about JMM's craft, which is why his lack of success was correctly interpreted as lack of size
The other question here is was Spence's performance so good that he salvaged the PPV? Can't remember the last time a fight card had FIVE STRAIGHT SQUASH MATCHES
phonetap has to figure you are smarter than this. Have you not been paying attention to the various opinions around there. Who is an elite fighter to you may not be to the next guy. Resorting to the standard juvenile tactic of insulting anyones boxing knowledge on a BOXING forum is asinine. Everyone here has boxing knowledge whether you agree or not. Good fortune to you.
Didnt think of Mayweather-Marquez but it a valid point. Unless the smaller guy has a significant skill advantage the bigger guy will always dictate how a fight goes.
Waste of everybody's time, no time for this "daring to be great" bollocks. I watch plenty of fights involving lower calibre fighters but I just skipped through the highlights for this one. There's no guarantee that Garcia goes back to what he was previously, that was a sustained beating, and it could end up being his Brook-Golovkin as opposed to Marquez-Mayweather. Please God Spence doesn't fight Pacquaio next, Pac should stick to fringe guys for dollars, and the sport should give us Crawford-Spence before we lose any more meaningful superfights
salacao is spot-on. Q: who the fuck wants to see Spence-Pacquiao??? A: Spence Groupies. It's the most ridiculous matchup possible. Pathetic, even by modern boxing standards. Man-the-fuck-up. Stop juicing. Fight Golovkin or Canelo and show what you've got, faggot.
Bullshit! I'm a Spence fan, and the only matchup I truly WANT is the one every hardcore fan wants... Crawford!! Because I'm a boxing fan before I'm a fan of any one fighter. But PBC/TR politics mean that Spence-Crawford ain't happening anytime soon. Thurman and Porter are both scared to death of Spence, and flat out refuse to fight him. Who does that leave besides Pac??? I don't WANT Spence-Pac the most, but I'll take it. It'll be good for the sport, cause it'll transform a young, talented elite fighter into a mainstream star.
