I was about to say, good power really? I don't remember him putting a dent in either Broner or Limpnuts. Admittedly I forgot he scored a KD, I mainly remember the less skilled but plucky Limpnuts coming forward making a go of it each round, without being at all discouraged by Mikey's "power". If anything, his fights at 140 made me think how little he belongs at 140+. He was the same skilled sharpshooter he always has been, and obviously won clearly, but he looked undersized, and figured he'd be outgunned by any elite fighter at 140 or above. Irish et al were talking about this being a lightweight Vs welterweight battle, IMO even that is a stretch. Mikey has a tiny frame, a bit like Lomachenko. Looks like a super feather at best. Even Duran Vs Leonard had less of a size difference. The size difference here looks more comical, and the irony is I think Spence is probably better even P4P. Absurd fight.
He was Soundly Defeated But Yeah, “Beaten Up” is a Stretch. There’s Typically a Degree of “Give” in a Guy Who’s Getting Beaten Up. That Wasn’t the Case w/Lipinets. REED
Whoever advised Garcia to take this fight should be fired. If he decided to fight Spence himself then he needs an advisor. It’s just a stupid fight for a guy who hasn’t looked that great above 135.
One thing is, if you watch Spence/Peterson, Spence does a really good job breaking through Peterson's tight guard.
But without knowing it, it is hard to say it's a bad move. Presumably, it is much more than he could've made facing a guy he'd be favored to beat.
Limpnuts wasn't beaten up at all, let alone badly. Mikey won about 8 rounds to 4 in a competitive fight. A bad beating is Pacquiao - Plasterito, or more recently, Spence Vs Brook/Peterdude.
He took a lot of clean/sick shots and his face was badly bruised by the end. But was not a totally one-sided beating.
Says who? Spence isn’t a guy who brings some huge amount of money. Garcia should be fighting guys in his own weight class not 147. Dumb decision.
garcia is getting 5 million i think. he'll try his best for a few rounds and his brother will stop the fight once it starts going downhill for him. so i dont forsee him taking a huge beating that could ruin him.
That's a lot more than I tought he would make for this fight. He only made 1 million for the Broner and Easter fights. Npw this fight makes a bit more sense from his perspective
I think the older Garcia, Robert, might have played a part in it. He took that fight against Ben Tackie who was massive compared to Garcia and Garcia still almost got out of the 10 rounds to collect the win. I think it's possible he's been putting ideas in heads about going in there and somehow nicking a surprise win. Mikey is better than Robert, but Spence is much better than Tackie.
Ive been noticing some people picking Garcia to win. I simply cant see how, as far as winning an official verdict. it is unlikely he stops spence. How in the fuck is he gonna win a decision over Haymons prized prospect, being a promotional free agent? My understanding is he is not signed with Haymon and has been taking it fight by fight. If he actually is able to get spence's respect early and outboxes him legitimately i still dont see him getting a decision.
I’m going to this one. I think Spence is way too much for him but hopefully Garcia will make it a good fight.
You just gave me a bad memory. I'm reminded of the time I guaranteed that Tackie would stop Tszyu. I remember writing out like an 8 paragraph breakdown as to why I picked him. I don't remember whether I posted it on BoxingFanatics, Secondsout, or both. I was young as Hell with nothing but time on my hands. I dont have the energy or the bandwidth to write that long of an analysis anymore. Lol
I think Garcia does surprisingly well early, and then the size advantage kicks in as Spence starts lighting him up in the middle rounds, I see a corner retirement in the 9th round. Then everyone backs Garcia against Loma
