I remember telling people at boxingtime that Pac would make it competitive. I didn't think he would win however.

I not only picked barrera, but I was rooting for him too, as I had said for years that Morales and Barrera would destroy Hamed and Pacquiao. I was clearly right about Hamed, not so much on Pacquiao

But shit, after the fight I had no excuses at all, it was obvious to me that Barrera WAS himself only until he tasted pacman's power and got decked hard. After that he was discouraged and weary, and simply not able to do anything with pacman.

Anyone who thinks that "wasn't barrera" is kidding themselves, and in denial about what a beast pac was that night.

That is what made me a believer in Pacman, I have never doubted him again. It was clear that night was about what Pacman, not Barrera being unprepared.

I'm in a bad position because I like both guys and I too, gave (and give) Pacquiao major props for that night and hell, for his entire career!

I became a believer after he dominated and KO'd Ledwaba...though I had seen him previously and he was hot and cold coming up through the lower divisions.

But I have always thought, and will continue to think, that Barrera looked soft at weigh-in -- and looked off early in that fight. Slower, with his punches lacking their crispness and accuracy even when Manny was there to be hit. There were times even, when some of his shots weren't even turned over.

I also think he wasn't prepared for Pacquiao and what he was facing. That's fully on Barrera, but it does have an effect on the fight. Again - who expected Manny to be a harder fight than Hamed or Morales at FWT?

Saw it again last week and had the same impression.

    It's what I saw....not who I am cheering for.

    Peace.

People keep talking up this MAB revenge shit and as much as I'd like to see it happen, I'll remind you guys the first time MAB tried to avenge a loss he got beat in the rematch. Remember Jr. Jones anyone?

I thought Barrera took that fight by a point or two...and so did many if I recall correctly.

    Peace.

The Junior Jones rematch? No way. He was doing well in the first half, but gave the fight away in the final six. I can see a draw at best, but Manny winning that fight? We'll forever agree to disagree on that one, and it's news to me that many people had Barrera winning that.

as for barrera being better in rematches - I thought he was better in the 1st Morales fight (where he got screwed) than the rematch (which he was given the win, though I thought it could've went either way). People always leave that one out, other than merely pointing to the W, or instead referencing the rubber match.

Finally - if you thought Marco looked soft at the weighin for the first fight, what's your take after seeing him with mini-love handles earlier today?

My impression has always been that it was a very close fight that could have gone either way - I had it for MAB by one point and thought he took the 11th and 12th. The other 2 swing rounds are the 4th and 7th (I gave the 4th to Junior based on a late surge and the 7th to MAB since Junior THREW alot but MAB was more effective with his offense - and defense).

I think Jones gets alot of credit for punches thrown and activity in that fight - but wasn't landing as cleanly/flush as MAB was.

    :dunno:

I wasn't addressing the rematch point in its entirety....we certainly cannot discount MAB-Morales II.

As for today....he looked about as fit as can be expected given his age and wear and tear...thought he looked pretty good.

Remember the first fight was at 126.

    Peace.

I just finished picking Viv to lose by KO in a MYTHICAL matchup earlier today. If that's not enough proof of my objectivity, I don't know what is

Off (main) topic, how did you score Lopez-Alvarez I?

You know I love ya, man. Just givin' you grief.

Watch Jones-Barrera II again and tell me what you think.

    Lopez-Alvarez I? Bastage.

I had Lopez up 66-65 for Finito I believe (so basically even if you take away the deduction to Alvarez).

Cupey, how about a sig bet? I like Pacquiao. If Pacquiao wins, you wear a non-obscene sig of my choosing. If Barrera wins, I wear a Fightbeat banner at every message board I post on that allows one.
