bullshit. If Ibragimov trained as hard as guys did in the 70's he'd be a friggin cruiserweight. If Foreman was around nowadays he'd be about 270, look like Sam Peter and pretty much suck.
Sure, if he trained by running as those guys did, then maybe. Too bad that style doesn't work anymore, it gave us such thrilling fights
Too bad people actually care about Heavyweight boxing. The Cruiserweight division should get the attention that Heavyweight boxing does. There are better more exciting fighters there. For no apparant reason they just kicked that division to the curb. Remember cruiserweights now are as big as Heavyweights used to be. The sport of boxing isn't dying but the shitty heavyweight division sure is dead. Too bad they had to waste airtime on garbage when there are much better little guys out there who could have had airtime.
BINGO! The same happens in most combat sprts, Olympic wrestling for instance. Super-heavyweight matches are usually really boring there, the 200lbs guys are much more entertaining. The reason why the biggest guys still get the biggest attention, rightly or wrongly, is that if they met one on one, the big guy would come out on top. probably after a pretty entertaining and brutal showing
Hell Yes!! :bears: In fact, in the next few weeks, ALL of the top cruiser's are pretty much fighting one another. And they are all 'pick 'em' type of fights, and all should be very exciting to watch. Sadly, and as you say, no-one seems to be bothered in the slightest...
We are defending a horrible matchup because HW's are bigger so they should fight more tactical so they don't get KTFO:doh: You can make all the arguements why Wlad fought smart. But no one left that fight itching to see the next in line for Wlad Klitscko. the game has changed for HW's. You are right. But if they don't watch it, they will see the financial structure in boxing change as well. Boring doesn't sell:nono:
One more time, why didn't you guys write Folyd off, margarito, Hatton, Williams? The hypocrisy is deafening, it's so loud no one can hear it :notallthere:
dsimon writes: Uhmmmmm respectfully half yes and half no. Barney Rubble should be a cruiser, agreed. he would also get his chin checked a lot more imo. Foreman was just a bigger man. He had a bigger reach, He was built strong, lean and tall. Size is not all in the weight. There is no evidence to date that a heavyweight needs any more size than a guy like Foreman had... none. Foreman would not look small in the ring next to Vlad, even if Vlad is a little bigger. For example, I weigh more than George Foreman at his prime and all my weight is in my legs (muscle) , the ten extra around the middle(fat) .... I would look much smaller than him in the ring.
.... Wow, this fight must have really sucked. I'll give my thoughts when I catch the replay on Tuesday I guess although it don't really sound like it's worth watching.
Foreman back in 70s dominated with his size. He could walk through the punches of smaller men. He wouldn't walk through Wlad's right cross, which he definitely would use against such an easy target
As I said in another thread... I don’t think boxing is dying but the fans are winning little bitches. The Wlad fight was boring as hell I agree but the Duddy fight was exciting as hell. Then you come on here and most people cry like little girls about both fights…WTF do you want to see… __________________
Agreed. How many of Ali's fights in the 70s can you avctually say you'd like to watch repeatedly? How about the fights vs: Jean-Pierre Coopman? Joe Bugner II? Alfredo Evangelista? Jimmy Young? ::
