Before going out of your way to congratulate HBO for almost getting ONE thing right look at the recent track record of wasted funds vs that of Showtime.

Showtime might have logged one dog of a deal but HBO is years deep into making bad deals and fights. Again, I wouldn't give them credit for doing what they're supposed to do.

I'm sure Shaw will push for the Khoward fight because he knows Bradley wants out...if Bradley loses, Shaw's done with him anyway.

What did they pay Berto for his latest mismatch? At least $2 million, yes? As far as I'm concerned that negates any goodwill they'd get for getting to Bradley-Khoward. And I absolutely 100% disagree with the
"overspending" thought. That's how we got to Dawson-Tarver II, the littany of Berto fights and all other fights that don't immediately come to mind. Come on Jake, that's a silly thing to say.

berto has been over paid but it seems to be paying off. because a lot of people Ive spoken too seem interested in seeing berto fight pacquaio or mayweather jr.

I'm speaking in regards to this article, yet another in the series of Hauser's vendetta against HBO and only HBO.

We know that HBO has been fucking up for years. This article makes it seem like Pacquiao being taken to Showtime FOR ONE FIGHT now sinks the ship - or as Hauser put it, the car driving off the cliff. Yet there's no guarantee that Pacquiao spends the rest of his day with Showtime, or even any more than this one fight.

As far as Bradley-Alexander - the $4 million figure is alarming, but what I ask is why Hauser dug up that number for this fight and no other. Mentioning the fighters' purses alone - around $2.3 million combined - doesn't set off a red alert quite as much.

Factor in the marketing budget, promoter's cut and all that other good stuff for, say the Super Six and there would be just as much outrage.

It sinks the ship if the marketing push goes well but overall I didn't read it as the death of HBO as much as it points out (as well as previous articles) the lack of imagination and complacency at the company. That's what I read.

As far as the purse numbers plus the site fee...shows how little Gary Shaw contributes as a promoter...toss Don King in too. HBO overpaid, the Silverdome overpaid and the turnout was a disaster. Regardless of what Shwotime did with Bute and the Super Six, doesn't erase those facts.

It's not just this fight, though, Hauser said both fighters have gaurantees for their next fights.

Is that really what they want to spend on Devon Alexander's next fight, presumably against Maidana.

Not sure if this is part of what Hauser was referencing in regards to other premium cable channels, or not, but I'm assuming it might be...

Yeah, I don't think Hauser said the ship had completely...that's not what I took away from the part about Richard Plepler.

It does suggest that things have finally gotten bad enough at HBO that they may actually do something about it.

Not directly related to Paquiao-Mosley, but HBO and Hopkins having a new 3-4 fight deal definitely pertains to the discussion of how HBO spends it money.

Can´t really blame HBO for that. Mosley looks like Manny has already beaten him up.

Yup, HBO gets it right by passing on Pascal-Dawson II... only to conceivably overspend in order to secure Pascal-Hopkins II.

What HBO - really all networks - should do is ban exclusive rematch clauses. The network should absolutely have the say so in what rematches are and aren't made, unless the promoter is willing to foot the entire bill.

Pascal-Hopkins II and Dawson-Diaconu is a logical set of a fights (although I'd rather seen Dawson-Cloud myself). Winner fights winner. If anything, overspend for that, not just on Hopkins himself.

Sounds to me like Gary Shaw made a big stink over Pascal-Dawson II not getting made. Way too much cooperation involved in this deal to think otherwise.

If Pascal and Chad take care of business it will happen again. Im hoping that Froch can win the s6 and fight Pascal again.

Hauser has another HBO article up, though not a whole lot of new information in it.

    http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&opt=printable&id=36193

    Some of it seemed recycled...

He does have a part two coming tomorrow:

PART TWO OF “WHAT HBO SHOULD DO NOW” WILL BE POSTED TOMORROW

As to what was actually said in the article, there was this:

And this quote just because HBO deserves it:

Not sure if this will be a four-part series, or if they decided to "condense" into two.

Rumor has it that his next piece will be "How SecondsOut/Maxboxing Lost Thomas Hauser"

Hauser should get the job since he knows exactly how to do the job.

Very true. But I'm not sure it compares to the job Golden Boy and Haymon have done at HBO.

And I do remember a time when Telefutura was actually consistently watchable.

I think it's been shown enough times that giving a promoter output deals isn't the best way to go for any network.
