I saw it at the theater. Excellent film IMO and a worthy sequel.

One of best friends in highschool joined the military roughly around the same time as me. I finished my contract and moved on with my life. Fast Forward 22 years and I find out he's still serving but never made Chief. I felt bad for him to make a career out the service and not at least move up in Rank. I wonder if him being a homo had something to do with it???

I wouldn’t call not making Chief some kind of failure. It doesn’t mean he didn’t move up. If he stayed in 22 years he had to have advanced at least 2 ranks otherwise he would have been discharged. How high did he advance and what branch was it?

I admit I have never cared to watch the first Top Gun and have little interest in the sequel, but I have read glowing reviews about this new one. Maybe when it plays on Netflix I'll watch it...or maybe not.

That first Top Gun is a classic. Pure 80s, and lots of nostalgia since as a kid that was the first movie I really remember gravitating towards.

I was worried about the sequel not living up to expectations but it was really good. It blew beyond what I thought it would be.

But you’ll have to see the first one to really GET it.

REED Saw it w/the Wife and Kids, But INSISTED the Original Top Gun Be Watched 1st...Watched Both Yesterday...After Seeing the Sequel, REED's Daughter's THANKED Him for Making Them Watch the 1st Edition Prior...

The 1st One Illustrated WHY Maverick was a BADASS Fighter Pilot and Contextualized How CLOSE Him and Goose were, WHY Goose Mattered to Maverick...You Can't FEEL That w/Out Seeing the Original...

Damn Good Movie...8.5 Out of 10/Maybe Even a 9...There's Enough SIMILARITY to the Original to Appease Original Top Gun Fans (Bar Scenes, Singing, Team Bonding via Sports, the Jacket, the Motorcycle, etc.), Yet it's an ENHANCED Version Undoubtedly...

The Cinematography was RIDICULOUS!!!...The Love Angle was a BIT Forced, but Women WANT to See Tom Cruise w/a Love Interest, So REED Didn't Allow it to Distract Him...The TENSION btwn Maverick and Rooster was TANGIBLE, But Would Go Right OVER the Heads of Viewers that HAVEN'T Seen the Original...As Would the IMPORTANCE of Iceman and His Relationship w/Maverick...

Like You Said, a Viewer NEEDS to Watch the Original Top Gun to FULLY Absorb/Appreciate the Sequel...But REED Habitually Revisits the Original Before Partaking in a Sequel Anyways...

He's not dead. He has throat cancer though. Unless he died within the last 12 hours I've been offline.

Kilmer's Been in POOR Health for Some Time Now, So to the Degree They Could Use Him in the Sequel, it Made Sense to Kill Off "Iceman"...

It was Done TASTEFULLY, @ Least...

They did something similar with the Cobra Kai character. In the Karate Kid Netflix series.

Watched it again at home. Still amazing. honestly tho this movie is just amazing because of the bullshit they release today. A movie like this in the late 80s and 90s was a typical summer blockbuster.

Well, the first was a blockbuster, and Top Gun Maverick is 15x better than the original.

The original Top Gun is a piece of shit TBH. By far the most overrated movie of the 80s.

Tom Cruise ain't stupid. He probably knows the original wasn't very good. He likely made it a point to ensure this one was much better.
