The "whack" from that right hand though from Wilder was really loud. Fury took it flush.

What did you think of the Lewis right hand to Rahman which put Rahman's lights out and woke him up when his head hit the canvas?

That's the best "got up" in history... fucking hell what a shot!

Fury wouldn't have gotten up from that Lewis right hand.

I remember Jerry Izenberg talking about interviewing Ali the day before the fight against Shavers and how Ali seemed depressed about the upcoming fight, telling Izenberg "do you have any idea how hard that man is gonna be beating on my head tomorrow?"

I still think the most impressive "get up" in history was Ali getting up from Frazier's hook in the 15th round.

Neither Holmes nor Fury had taken much punishment before they were decked by Shavers/Wilder. It's a lot easier to get up when you haven't taken much previous punishment in the fight.

Ali had taken a beating all night, was tired as all Hell, got decked by a left hook from the man with the best left hook in history... and got up and kept fighting.

    Ali was unreal.

It was just less dramatic because Ali was tougher than Holmes and Fury. They got knocked dead and had to come back to life.

Ali got hit by a shot that SHOULDA knocked him dead... but he just popped back up.

Behind the good looking face was a block of iron.

Just the sound alone from the one-two Lewis landed on Rahman was frightening. Savage shot.

The knockdown Holmes suffered against Snipes was heavy as well, although obviously Snipes isn't Shavers.

I remember watching it with a buddy of mine and the second it landed I said "that's the ballgame right there, forget about it" as he was falling

I already said last week that Lewis' power punches had a different sound to them than anyone else's. His right hand sounded like a baseball landing on someone.

Agreed. He had that Foreman-esque raw-boned strength in addition to speed (for a guy that size) and technique.

Lewis-Rachman II was the single most devastating one-punch KO in history in ABSOLUTE terms.

In P4P terms, you can argue that Marciano-Walcott, Foster-Tiger, or Jackson-Graham were more brutal shots.

But in absolute terms, that was the biggest KO punch ever landed.

And that was overconfidence, as well... before he fought him, Holmes had his guys get him some tapes of Snipes and he actually shut the tapes off because he was worried he'd get overconfident because Snipes looked completely shit compared to him and the guys he'd already defeated... for the most part he was right and you could see during the fight he was not respecting Snipes, comfortably winning while basically in first gear and then BOOM! ... almost cost him millions he was due to collect against Cooney

With Shavers, he went in making damn sure he stayed alert the whole time and still got whacked (he'd already decisioned Earnie before, but knew to respect him)

Even the people that flat out hated the guy couldn't and can't say a thing about the substance of the man... he was tough as nails

I know the guy was a mediocre fighter, not a world class guy like Holmes and Fury, but he still deserves mention in this discussion... Julio Gonzalez rising from the knockout against Julian Letterlough.

Gonzalez was OUT!!! Yet somehow woke up, got up, and won the fight.

It was such an odd fight... Gonzalez dominated to the extent that it was largely boring except he had to get up three times!

You might be right. The leverage he got into that right hand was nuts. The left hook was a hard shot as it was but it left Rahman's chin positioned in just the right place for Lewis to follow through with the right. Devastating.

Gonzalez had as much heart as anybody. Roy beat his ass all 12 rounds, but Gonzalez never stopped trying.

Very sad that he died young. Fuckin drunk driver killed him.

Both died young if I recall correctly, although I might be mistaking Letterlough for somebody else.

Yeah, Letterlough was shot and killed in cold blood outside of a bar.

The guy who did was rightfully given substantial prison time.

Yeah but you won’t believe how many idiots (pro boxing judges included) automatically give a 2 point round to a guy who gets a knockdown while simultaneously discounting everything else that happened in that round.

I’ve heard many a moron justify that robbery by claiming Wilder had four points based on the 2 kds and that there’s an argument for 2 other rds somewhere in that fight. Of course they never actually say what the other 2 rds are, just that there is an argument that they exist.

Even if you give Wilder four rounds, the points still don't add up as there are another eight rounds available. It just makes it 114-112 to Fury with the knockdown points deducted from the usual 116-112 for an 8-4. I'm utterly amazed that there are boxing journalists out there who have been covering the sport for decades that don't realise this and keep parroting "yeah but Wilder won two 10-8 rounds so that means he only needed another two rounds to get a draw". It's fucking absurd.
