Before we go and say everyone with good striking will now have the blueprint to beat Machida, lets at first acknowledge that Shogun is and has been a world class fighter for a long time. There aren't many with his all around skill and very few fighters like him at 205. I picked Machida to win this, but I also said Shogun would be his toughest test to date and that Shogun definitely has the tools to pull it off. I want to see a rematch, not sure why anyone wouldn't.
I thought it was a good fight fought on a skill and strategy but casual fans just want to see a sloppy slugfest...I think Shogun wins the rematch.
Every time you post it's like a little slice of Sherdog. You think you're some kind of MMA elitist, but you're just a dumbass. Skill does not make a fight exciting.
Not sure if I am following you Z. Because the fight wasn't "exciting" , you don't want to see a rematch? I think when a champion retains a title to a widely contested decision, that requires a rematch. I actually enjoyed watching Shogun pick Machida apart. Machida looked sooo uncomfortable and I wasn't expecting it at all. Now, I am not sure I would put the rematch as a main event for a PPV, but it would be perfect coupled as a Co-mainevent with say GSP and his next victim.:cheer:
I just didn't think it was worth the price I paid to watch it. It's that simple. It IS meanigful, but that doesn't mean I want to see it. If Cory Spinks fought Mayweather, skill would be on display, but I wouldn't find that exciting either.

MMA is Entering the Phase of Development where it May Start Losing CASUAL Fans Because of the ADVANCEMENT of the Fighters...Guys R Cross-Training More, Learning to OFFSET Various Styles & Fighting SAFER/Doing JUST ENOUGH to Win More Frequently... That's SMART & it'll LENGTHEN a Career, but it's Not Necessarily "Fan-Friendly" to the Blood-Thirsty Idiot that Looks @ MMA as the New "Cool" Thing to Partake in...Part of MMA's Appeal Over Boxing was the HEIGHTENED Level of Violence, but that's Because in it's Infancy, Guys WEREN'T Cross Trained & were IGNORANT as to How to DEFEND Takedowns, Submissions, Kicks, etc... Now, as the Fighters Become More Sophisticated, there's FEWER Guys Taking CHANCES (Particularly @ the ELITE Level) which Leads to More Fights that a CASUAL Fan Won't Appreciate...Already, Guys like Anderson Silva, GSP & Now Machida R Being Criticized After WINNING Bouts, Similar to the Way Guys like Floyd, Roy Jones, etc. were Criticized in Boxing... Its a great point, REED. I think the UFC could do themselves a load of help by keeping the so called non-exciting fighters (even if they are a champion) off of PPV's. Or at least mainevents of PPV's .Just because you are a champion doesn't mean you warrant a PPV.:nono:
i agree.... ...i think for the credibility of the sport, as a sport....you want the best exponents of it at the top of the bill. If this makes for a perceived lack of excitement, then that is what co-main events are for.
Otoh, a ppv without a title fight or more is rarely ppv-worthy. People shelling out big bucks deserve to see the cream of the crop. Anyway, a ppv is more than just the main event when it comes to the ufc...they can do all kinds of great undercard matchups if they want. UFC 104 was okay...decent undercard with an intriguing new champ against a possibly still relevant challenger. It just so happened, that the challenger fought better than expected and the champ worse.
This is more of what I meant. I love having a title fight on every PPV card, but if it is a champion that is known for "not so exciting" fights, make a fight that might not be a title fight but definitely a crowd pleaser as the Co-mainevent. I just really don't want to see the UFC move torwards the boxing mold of today where one fight selling a ppv and the rest of the card suck.
