I like Jones and don't like Machida, but BOSS has a point. He obviously knew he was out, why not just kind of put him on the ground rather than letting him flop down like that while he was unconscious?

Ref should have been more on the ball too, he should have grabbed Machida to stop him falling like that.

Wow..... Man I almost puked when Nog's shoulder popper. That was sickening.

It was also poetic. Just moments before Rogan said something like "They're both black belts but Nog is just on a different level."

    Maybe not...

And Jones? Holy shit. The guy is just absolutely trashing every top guy in the division. In all honesty, the first round wasn't all that difficult for Jones. He got hit cleanly. I guess the guy is so good that it's amazing when he gets hit cleanly.

It's also amazing that a single elbow on the ground basically ended the fight. Machida looked like a dishrag when they got back up.

I don't know what Jones could have done. He has to hold the choke until the ref stops. Big John was on the wrong side and didn't see Machida free arm go limb.

But when the ref says "Let go of the hold", what should Jones do?

I can't fault him too much.

not the same thing at all, fight ws still on, so it would have been dumb of him to possibly let Nog out. Jones said he knew Machida was out and Big Jones stopped the fight, so he could have gently dropped him to the floor instead of just letting him fall. either way, it's no big deal to me.

I guess he could have just kind of let him down gradually, it would have only taken a couple of seconds.

Who knows, maybe he was expecting the ref to catch Machida.

No because they were still fighting.

There's a big difference between being in the fight and after the fight.

I have no problem at all with a fighter being an arsehole in the ring (within reason), I don't like excessive friendliness WHILE fighting, but after the fight is completely different, that's not a time to be an arsehole.

I agree. It was crazy, I don't understand how that 1 elbow basically ended the fight.

I thought Machida and his countering style was actually giving Jones some problems, and Jones definitely looked more uncomfortable than usual.

After he got up from that elbow he basically looked done.

I agree, I don't really hold it against him, he was probably caught up in the moment, rather than did it on purpose etc just to be a cunt.

Ref should have been quicker off the mark like I said, that's his job.

You never never just want to let someone go when they go limp. Let the ref tell you when to stop. Machida could have been playing possum and then what?
And fuck letting him down easy. Machida was fine. I thought Europeans were suppose to be tough. Some of you sound like a bunch of bitches.

I like Jones. I haven't seen a fight of his since Shogun, but he's obviously very good.

He's also doing a good job of proving the point I was making a couple years back - that other than a couple elite guys (Silva, GSP) every cage fighter in the world is pretty much garbage. Just garbage matched against garbage, so it's tough to tell they're both garbage.

Jones is exposing all these dudes for the bums they really are.

    Jones. :bears:

Tyson would knock you out and make sure you don't get hurt falling through the ropes or help you up / hold you up. And he's supposed to be this EVIL guy . Jones is supposed to be this nice guy and does this ?

That's a bit too generalized. Did Ali expose guys like Liston, Cooper, Williams, etc as garbage? Did Tyson expose Holmes, Spinks, etc as garbage

No, Jones is just a special athlete that is better than his competition. It doesn't make his competition garbage.

Guys like Rua, Machida, and Rampage aren't They just aren't as good as Jones.

Honestly, I get your whole "let's trash MMA" nonsense but calling accomplished fighters garbage pretty silly even for you.

Steve_Dave: "...every cage fighter in the world is pretty much garbage."

You just added another moronic comment to your collection. Hatred can certainly make otherwise intelligent people look like a short bus, window licker.

Jones got the sub. He also got zapped by a few of Machida's punches. He held the choke til the ref told him to let go, and then he let go. What are you guys bitching about? It's not his job to cradle Machida into a sleeping position. The guy just tried to take Jones' head off and take his belt away. I'm surprised at some of the whining. He didn't throw him to the ground or anything.

I thought it would go longer for sure, but that was one damn powerful elbow to the head. It was the game-changer. I thought Machida was winning the standup and he buzzed Jones a few times. Jones had to go soul-searching to find out just how bad he wanted to keep his title, and then people bitch because he didn't tuck Machida into bed with a cup of hot cocoa? :l2::l2::l2:

ufc sure does a good job of marketing fights pitting men who suffered many severe ass whippings against one another. in boxing if a guy suffers a bad loss like that it is far more detrimental to their career financially. then again if they keep winning they are compensated more fairly.

That was a good night of fights. I thought Mir was done in there, and then he finished Big Nog---possibly for good. It's gonna take a long time for that arm to heal.
