Its good enough to keep the card going. A card that many other people trained for. A card that other fighters are on that card were depending on to feed their families.
Well Hell, now its going to be Jones vs Vitor Belfort. Machida turned down the fight too. http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/8/2...adline-ufc-152-after-lyoto-machida-turns-down
I had a feeling this would happen. Machida is a diva too. People can bash Chael all they want, but that man is ready to fight whoever, whenever. Now Jones looks like a damn fool.
Posted by Chael Sonnen. I am no longer permitted to speak ill of the former champion Jon Jones as we have come to an agreement. I will stop tearing him down verbally and in exchange he has relinquished his belt to me. I would like to read a prepared statement from the former Champion. Mr Sonnen, In every mans life a choice must eventually be made. Run or fight. I said I wouldn't duck any man as champion. But you are no ordinary man. You've spoken nothing but truth in your attempt to gain a title fight with me. My last act of cowardness is to hand over what you would have beaten out of me 8 days from today. The UFC LHW Title. Now I must refocus my life. Good luck Champ. Signed, Jon Bones Jones P.S. I just ordered your best selling book, A Voice of Reason from amazon, I've been told by Greg Jackson that it will help me get through this tough time. Thanks
Jones has an easier fight now so I guess he's happy. I expect him to walk right through Vitor. Sadly I think Jones could have avoided all this by beating Sonnen which I think was an easy win for him too.
Daniel Cormier @dc_mma Hey @DeWayneZinkin keep phone close. Wouldn't be surprised if we get a call from @ufc begging me to go down and kick his ass after mir. DC
Yea, but in this case, you're being offered a chance to fight one of the best champs in the sport right now that's had a full training camp, and you wouldn't have. You would have about 8 days of training. I can see why Machida and Shogun wouldn't take a fight like this on short notice which really shows why guys like Weidman and Sonnen have balls to step up and take when they're probably not in top shape. I don't think its a wise move, but its ballsy.
Machida trained for his last fight which lasted a few seconds. Machida trains the same way all the time. HIs style never changes.
I would love to see Cormier at 205, the man has fucking impressed me at heavyweight, if didn't lose anything but some bellyfat dropping to 205, I think he's got the best shot of anyone of beating Jones. Cormier is a bad ass dude. The only reason I don't have him in my top 3 right now is that he hasn't accomplished as much yet, but I do foresee him getting in the top 5 VERY soon when he beats someone in the UFC, and not Frank Mir. I think Frank is going to sleep in that fight, wham bam thank you sir.
Its not about preparing for a certain style, I just mean there's a difference between training for an upcoming fight in 8-10 weeks and just keeping in shape between fights.
Cormier already fucked his kidneys up cutting weight wrestling. I'd love to see him dop down, but I don't know how realistic it would be.
He doesn't want to fight his friend and training partner Cain Valasquez, if you ask me, Cain is the one that should drop to light heavyweight, he doesn't have the best chin and heavyweight is not a division for a weak chin. Cormier on the other hand has shown he can take some blows just fine. I think Cain is the one that should drop, both could stand to lose some pounds but at least Cormier is proven more to me at heavyweight than Cain. Cain is going to sleep against JDS.
How is he too big? he's 6'1" which isn't giant by any means, and he's soft as a marshmellow. Cormier is 5'11" and soft as well but he's only 10lbs under Cain.
Cain is a big dude though, his frame is pretty big even though he's not that tall. I'm sure both of them could probably cut to 205, but it would be hard for both of them.
Personally I don't blame Machida or Rua turning down a fight with Jones on September 1st. They both know full well that even their best versions with full training camps got their asses brutally kicked against Jones the first time around. Right now both guys are in great positions to get a rematch with full training camps on their schedule. They don't need to rush the title shot and be unprepared. If they lose again, they're done at 205 until Jones moves up.
