Also, throw in the fact that it's not like Cormier went dormant after the olympics and his natural size has shrunk enough to help him get down to 205. Also, the olympics were at 211.5 lbs. This is just a stupid fucking move. Cormier doesn't want to fight Cain, fine, don't fight him. I wonder if Cain would do the same favor to him, but who cares?
I never understood calling his drop to 205 foolish because he almost died before. He almost died cutting weight stupidly. He didn't know how to do it. He isn't cutting weight now. He is dieting. He has been doing this diet for almost two years. He is dropping the weight the proper way. I see Cormier beating Gus at205
Time will tell. Diet or not, it's hard for me to imagine Cormier looking good at 205 given how long he's carried significant additional weight and how long it's been since he's done anything sports-related at 205. No matter what, Gustaffson is too much for Cormier as a first fight at LH.
239.5 against Monson 247 against Bigfoot 238 against Barnett 230 against Dion Starling 235 against Mir 224 against Nelson A clear pattern of fatness.
Thanks. A heavyweight who fights at 5'10", 224 lbs should be able to make 205 lbs pretty easy. A guy who looks like Cormier at 224 lbs should be able to make 205 pretty easy. But, a guy who had massive trouble making 211.5 lbs as an olympic wrestler of those same dimensions, in 2008, who probably hasn't seen 224 lbs since 3 hours after his last wrestling match in 2008 and his weigh in for last weekend's fight, doesn't project to ever making 205 lbs in 2013 or 2014 without having adverse effects on his performance.
how many pounds did chris byrd drop from heavy to light heavy? he probably had a six pack, but got his ass handed to him by some guy who was barely top 15. it's a different sport, but seems like guys who drop from heavy to light heavy haven't had much success. cormier's not a huge puncher at heavy and i wouldnt expect him to be faster at light heavy and he'll be in against guys that are faster and more fluid than him. having said that, i dont think the light heavy division's very good, so who knows. i can see him beating gus.
AXS showed Henry Cejudo on a recent fight. I think he's 5-0 now. He seemed decent, but not at the top of the pack decent, yet. For those who don't know Cejudo, in some ways his wrestling credentials surpass anyone else out there. He was beating everyone in the usa as a senior in high school and won the gold in the Olympics as a 20 year old. Joony can probably fix anything I got wrong there, but that's the gist of it.
yea you're right on cejudo. he was a phenom. however, he somewhat retired after the olympics in 08 and didn't really compete again till the 2012 olympic trials and he ended up losing in the 2nd round or so. can't say i've been overly impressed w/ his performances so far.
