Jones doesn't need any tricks to sell himself or to help the sport. He's fine as he is.

There are a few guys who can make themselves more marketable in mma through their mouth, but at the very top of the talent pool, actions speak far more loudly than words. The sport is better that way than trying to be a real version of WWE.

Yep. The bottom line is that dominance sells way more tickets than mouthy promotion (i.e. GSP)

if that was the case Jose Aldo would be a huge draw.

Johnson looked great at 205, he will definitely shake up the division.

Excellent finish by Rockhold.... the future MW champion :aye:

If generalities didn't have exceptions they wouldn't be generalities.

If Aldo keeps winning, he probably will be a big draw, though. I think he's one of the best guys to watch in the sport right now.

Jose Aldo, Renan Barao, Dominick Cruz, Ben Askren, etc. You can name many dominant fighters that arent draws here in the US. Klitchko, Hopkins, Holmes, Marquez

You need certain things to be a draw. Attitude and charisma are probably the #1. Ask Mayweather and Trinidad.

I will put it this way. If Jon Jones acted more like Mayweather he would be getting three times more money he is now.

In the UFC, just like in boxing, people just don't care about the smaller fighters as much.

It is what it is. People would just rather watch a dominant heavyweight or light heavyweight than they would a dominant 145 or 135 pounder.

^ This. Barrao and Aldo could talk like a combination of Ali, Hill Hogan and Chael Sonnen but they still wouldn't be signicantly more popular.

They fight in weight classes that no one cares much about.

I think we are talking about two seperate things. Im not saying Jones is not a draw. I am saying would be a bigger one if he talked trash, similar to a mayweather or sonnen. I really dont think this is up for a debate.

This is like saying all successful trash talkers are bigger draws than they would be without trash talk. I disagree.

Much. Rockhold is a former mw champion, that would be facing Weidman right now for the title if he did not get beat by vitor. Also, IMO rockhold needs to move up to light heavy. He is a big guy

    Then why bring up Sonnen?

Oscar, GSP, Pacquiao, Chavez, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones...

Even cocky guys like Matt Hughes and Lennox didn't trash talk.

It works for some, not for others. There is no reason to believe that it would work for everyone other than it just happens to be your preference. "Keeping it real" can be just as big of a positive as clever trash talking. It just depends.

Sonnen is the exception to the rule because he did to Anderson what nobody could.

Lennox talked Trash and Jon Jones does talk trash. Jones should just do it and not apologize for it.

Again, A dominate champion who talks mad shit = Lots of money. There is no dispute.

The problem with trash talk is, so much of it seems forced and phony. Take a fighter like Ricardo Mayorga. He would trash every opponent he had, but when the fight was over, it was all hugs, love and compliments. It just came across as a big scam.

That's why I loved when Rousey didn't shake Tate's hand after beating her. It showed her feelings were legit and she wasn't just selling a fight.

It looks like having under hooks in the clinch against Jon Jones will be a scary place from now on. Apparently Glover has to have surgery to repair a torn labrum thanks to the arm crank by Jones in the first round.

Credit to Glover for fighting like a beast for the next 4 rounds despite a very painful and disabling injury.
