Please. The greatest champions in MMA have MAYBE 5 title defenses in a row. Boxers go 31-0 and are called unproven:doh:
Most boxers fight handpicked rubbish found in the sewers. Look at JCC Jr. Who has this chump ever fought? Matt Vanda? Pussy is like 40-0 and yet against who?:: Boxing is all about padding records. You can make a whole career out of fighting nobodies. How the f*ck did Peter McNeely get a pro record of like 31-1? They actually marketed this f*cker as a legit opponent for Tyson's comeback, even pushing his ranking into the top 10 of the WBA which was another case of corruption at its finest thanks to the underhanded efforts of criminal Don King.
So every MMA fighter is a proven professional:: Guys come in to the UFC with 7-3 records and they were all battle tested and trained worthy opponents? Please.
Holy crap. Make one reference to Roy and everyone gets their vaginas hurt:: Forget the comparison. I was just referencing how they both make good fighters look average. For fuck's sake
The human air balloon has spoken!:bears:Stop talking sh*t, I didn't say MMA fighters are all that. I'm just telling it like it is regarding the corruption of boxing. Wanderlei Silva isn't in a position where he can handpick bums the way most boxers do. Even with the loss to Jackson, there're not gonna put him on a safe comeback road, he's gonna have to immediately step back in there with a top fighter. When Roy bitched out against Tarver in that 3rd fight, he went on a road of clowns till he got his next big payday against Calzaghe.
But Hanzy made a great point in response. While not every MMA fighter is world class, there is very little 'building' of records especially in the UFC. All you have to do is look at Brock Lesnar. The guy is a huge name that the UFC could have milked for several fights before putting him in with real competition. What did they do? They matched him with a former champion in Mir right out of the gate. That was followed by a proven warrior in Herring and then Randy Couture. So the result is that Lesnar won't ever have a 30-0 record like a hand-fed boxing propspect. That's not a slam on boxing or MMA, it's just pointing out a huge difference in how matches are made. And like I said, Anderson Silva won't get to defend against opponents the caliber of Bryant Brannon or Lou Del Valle like Roy Jones did. It's just the way it is.
After all of this "arguing" the debate still comes down to the parity of MMA. MMA opponents may be trash but they are acceptable because of the level of the talent pool. To their credit The UFC actually uses it to it's advantage.
Rashad was losing all his big fights until he got the KO. He ain't Ko'ing shit against Henderson, who has a rock for a head. The only big fight where Rahsad has not been able to score the KO was against Tito Ortiz who embarrassed him in the first two rounds, and Rashad got lucky because of teh point deductions. henderson is a better wrestler/fighter than Tito. Give me Henderson by 5th round TKO or UD.
great post Gatti, Henderson is practically the worst opponent possible for Rashad. Henderson would grind out a late TKO. 205 is up for grabs. No one is truly the dominant fighter of the division. The talent is so deep there.
205 IMO is a more comfortable weight for Rich and I will state now that he beat Evans but Im not so sure he can get past Henderson. Dan Henderson IMO destroys Evans - the best way to beat Dan is by submission ala Anderson Silva and I just cant see Rashad doing that. Franklin beats by late TKO or UD. Henderson KO his ass in 2.
The guys hes fighting right now are B and C calibre and hes no where near as impressive as Roy was in his prime. Franklin is his biggest win
LOL Anderson Silva just fought Patrick Fucking Cote he is no better then Brannon or Del Valle. He is a bum straight up. If you want to play the Roy beat Cops and Sanatation workers card, Silvas biggest wion is over a School Teacher
Really? So the 2nd round submission of Former Pride MW and WW Champion Dan Henderson isn't bigger than Franklin? And trust me, comparing apples to apples, Franklin is far more accomplished in MMA than Brannon or Del Valle every dreamt of being in boxing. I understand your unbiased love of Roy won't let you let an unkind comment go by with out getting your panties in a wad, but there really is no comparison between MMA and boxing match making. Hell, even Cote's MMA accomplishments leave Brannon and Del Valle in the dust. Also, if there was a Darius Michalczewski racking up an undefeated record for 10 years in Anderson Silva's weight class, you can bet your ass he wouldn't be able to avoid fighting him the UFC like Roy did in boxing. And that is just a plain, cold, hard fact.
Sure im on Roys nuts but im at least going to be logical about the situation. Cotes MMA accomplishments don't leave De Valle in the dust, possibly Brannon but not De Valle. Lets be real Cote hasn't accomplished shit, don't believe verything you hear White and Rogan tell you on the countdown shows. Thats cool if Franklin is more accomplished. Roy has wins over Hopkins, Toney, Tarver, Hill and McCallum. Theres no way in hell that Franklin is more accomplished then them, Tarver has bigger wins then Franklin has had so ill include him too. Maybee he wouldn't be avoiding him, but i can easily say if that guy was in another promotion ala Couture and Fedor or Silva and Lidell (in primes) they wouldn't be fighting anyway so its not like the fights that should get made always happen in MMA. Cung Le is a better fighter then Cote, hate it or love and Silva won't be able to fight him because hes not under a UFC contract.
Henderson is a bit past his bet. I am a fan of Dan and would like to see him win but I believe Rashad is too youthful for him to handle at this stage of his career.
If Roy and Darius had the same promoter I could see your point. As it is your point isn't very good. You have the best fighter in the world fighting outside of the UFC and they don't seem to want to bring him in.
It's not bias on my part Reed. I am a very old boxing fan. I just like the way the UFC doesn't coddle fighters. If there are two guys that need to fight, they fight. That just absolutely doesn't happen enough in boxing.
There's NOT as Much to Choose from N MMA, Man...205's the Only Truely Deeeeeeeeeeeeeep Division N the UFC....The BIGGEST Reason why Lesnar was THROWN into the Fire is Because there AIN'T Alot of Quality Heavyweights in UFC... Guys like U Say Roy "Ducked" This Person or That Person, but the FACT is, Roy Fought Top 10 Contenders, by RING MAGAZINE Standards, Throughout his Career...& even RING was HYPOCRITICAL Enough to BITCH after Roy EMBARRASSED Guys that THEY Ranked... REED:hammert:
Roy was great but he pulled a bitch move at heavyweight and he talked way too much sh*t on boxingtalk. Stuff like "Gimme 100 mill and I'll go whup both Klitschkos bitch asses!" Dude was delusional.
