The UFC, $44 million in debt as recently as 2005, according to chief executive officer Lorenzo Fertitta, is today widely believed by industry insiders to be worth north of a billion dollars. Among items Fertitta noted: • Since 2005, the first year the UFC became profitable, the company has paid more than $250 million to its fighters. http://www.mmashareforum.com/seriou...s-say-they-are-getting-underpaid--t51089.html And while UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta claimed that the UFC pays its fighters in the neighborhood of 50 percent of all the promotion's revenues, ESPN's investigation made a convincing case that the UFC actually pays less than that. http://www.mmafighting.com/2012/01/15/outside-the-lines-investigates-ufc-pay-but-questions-remain/ So...giving the bullshit liar the benefit of the doubt...UFC 57 was the first numbered event of 2006. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UFC_events We just had UFC 142. 142-56 = 86 main numbered UFC events. A few of these were not ppv telecasts and even though I'm not counting all of the other shows such as fight nights...let's just make it 80 numbered UFC events. (The actual number is that 2006 began with the 66th UFC event and Guillard vs Miller was the 195th UFC event so there have actually been 129 events to make this $250 million claim, but let's just assume that only the 80 events brough in revenue.) 80 events * $45 * 400,000 average buys per event = $1.44 Billion dollars I haven't included sales to commercial establishments which have to be signficant. But let's add live gate. Just a bullshit low guess of $2million per event (eyeballing the references part of the Wiki link) adds another $160 Million to the total...so we are at $1.6 Billion We haven't included any site fees. We haven't included any tv fees from Spike or Vs or foxsports. We haven't included Fox network's payment for Dos Santos/Velasquez, but keep in mind they are paying $100 million a year for a few events per year. There may be an argument that the revenue needs to be discounted for ppv provider services...and it does...but if the UFC actually pays 50% of their revenues to the PPV providers, I will be amazed. The UFC is nothing but a cash cow to the PPV providers and I don't see how a regularly televised entity like the UFC could not leverage its situation into paying the ppv providers far less than 50% that others might pay. Regardless, the only way to believe the UFC is being fair to their fighters is to be a shill, not care, or stick your head in the sand.
You might be a proponent of a player holding out during the middle of a contract for more money simply because he had a great season or a fighter because he won a couple of fights.. I am not. For me, it is no more complicated than that.
Do you know the exposure Bellator has? They are owned by Viacom and is on all it's stations. Do you know who Viacom is? It's the forth biggest media company in the world. The own Comedy Central, Logo, BET, Spike, TV Land, Nick@Nite, Nickelodeon, TeenNick, Nick Jr., MTV, VH1, MTV2, Tr3́s, CMT, Palladia and im sure they promote Bellator on all of them and show it on many of them.
You're fight, I didn't know what the fuck he was talking about and then when he explains that he is referring to Bellator because they are owned by a big company...well, all that indicates to me is that he doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about. Having a well-backed, non-threatening, minor competitors means fuck-all about whether or not an effective monopoly exists in the market.
The Problem is, MANY Combative Sports Fans (On THIS Site) Use the Monetary Side of Boxing as a NEGATIVE, in Comparison to MMA...Therein Lies the Hypocrisy...U CAN'T Bitch about Boxing Paying Guys Exorbitant Amounts of Money (which CAN Lead to Complacency), yet THEN Expect MMA's Pay Scale to Go Unmentioned... Can't Have it Both Ways, yet MMA Guys Seem to WANT it That Way... REED
Personally I don't expect it to go 'unmentioned'... I just don't see the point in arguing without any facts. And regarding boxers, I have no issue with boxers making as much as they possibly can as long as it doesn't cause fights not to happen. My only other issue is with trying to compare boxing and MMA directly (i.e. Cotto made $5mil so GSP should to).... That is just narrow minded.
It's Equally "Retarded" to Act as if these Guys have ANY Leverage Or Bargaining Power...That's what You CONSISTENTLY OVERLOOK In All of this... In Most Cases, UFC is Offering "Take it Or Leave it" Contracts to Guys Because they CAN... REED:shit:
Do U Also Feel that Owners Should Be Required to Live up to THEIR End of the Contracts???...If So, REED is VERY Interested in your Thoughts on How NFL Owners HABITUALLY Cut Guys BEFORE the Terms of their Contracts are Completed... For Instance, Peyton Manning's on the Verge of Getting CUT Because the Colts DON'T Want to "Live Up" to the 28 Million that they agREED to Pay him, Contractually... REED:mj:
Ummm... Correct me if I'm wrong but can't a minor competitor become a major competitor if they have deep pockets and broader resources? This is another gem from you. They are adding up.
Your gem collection must resemble a dogshit bin. Wtf does it matter what could happen? For example, cdogg is a virgin. He tries to rape a little boy and is thrown in prison two weeks ago. While in prison, he receives a fan letter from a different little boy who writes that he is considering having sex with cdogg when he is older and when cdogg is let out of prison. Is cdogg still a virgin right now? Yes. Just because he has the potential to end his virginity in the future doesn't change that. Now the problem with this analogy isn't that it doesn't correlate with the UFC/Bellator situation, the problem is trying to imagine that cdogg could actually go 2 weeks in prison and still remain a virgin.
No, I don't overlook it. Guys CAN leave or CHOOSE NOT TO fight in the UFC. A 'take it or leave it' offer has two choices. That's what YOU overlook.
reed should realize he is wrong when he agrees with mike. That should be clue enough to re-evaluate your position.
I will make this as simple as possible. I am in favor of ALL parties honoring every aspect of a contract. Do you know the particulars of Manning' contract?
You seriously think that REED hasn't considered this? You seriously think I haven't considered this? Think about the ramifications of REED and me agreeing on something and consider that it probably means that you should consider whether or not YOU need to re-evaluate your position.
Rather than a moronic analogy which is all you're capable of providing, why not look at the AFL and how deep pockets turned a small, inferior football league into a rival to the NFL. Nothing is exactly the same but it's far closer than talking about cdogg's virginity.
I think the top guys are over paid bitches in boxing. I think MMA pay is almost to the point of "about right".
By the way, Mike needs to PM some of the non MMA fans to get in here and vote in his poll. Right now, by my count, this is backfiring on him. LOL....
Different argument. The problem with your position on this argument is that the UFC has prevented the market from providing a viable option for the fighters because they buy up competitors rather than beating them fair and square in the market. The biggest factor in beating them fair and square is competing for fighters' services by how much you pay the fighters. So you invest in buying out viable competitors and you keep the monopoly on fighter options and... this is so hard to figure out... you continue to pay them (relative) shit because they have no other options and you can. Alpha male eats male cubs. Alpha male continues to screw all bitches. This is what the UFC does and it's unfair business practice. Alpha male lets male cubs grow up. Alpha male kicks the shit out of young males because he trains harder, is stronger, has better game with bitches. Alapha male screws all the bitches because they prefer him to the competition. This would be far more acceptable, but it isn't happening. Why? Because there are too many people who like watching the Alpha male screwing and don't care about the bitches getting screwed.
Look, if you would admit that it is possible that the UFC could be underpaying its fighters we could stop going in circles. Your reliance on the UFC shill playbook is what is tiresome.
two weeks ago you thought the UFC fighters make the reporterd payouts. You recently found out GSP makes 5 million. And YOU STILL CANT ADMIT It's possible the UFC DOESNT underpay it's fighters. That being said, I nor TRP NEVER SAID IT WASNT POSSIBLE. I said that we dont know enough about the UFC expenses to make that determination. Can anyone here other Mike tell me if that is fair or not? Since the UFC is private company with many different expenses. More expenses than a boxing promoter. In order for me to dertmine if they are underpaid i would need to see their finances. ANYONE? is that unfair?
If you just admitted that you have no idea what the UFC should pay their fighters you would immediately jump from a single digit IQ to 30 something. You have no idea if the UFC is pulling down 5% margins or 75% margins. It could be either and you wouldn't know. So keep speculating.
