In this movie they try hard to reason how it could be possible and why would such an exhibition fight ever be made. They fail on both. Heavyweight is not popular now, so yeah, lets get Joe Frazier in the ring and make him fight an exhibition against Wlad:doh:

still not as big of a stretch as "The Fighter" making the WBU title "welterweight championship of the world".

    are you serious?

Calling the WBU title the world Championship is "misleading" but come on...COME ON...a man in his 60s (late 50s at best) being allowed to fight the undisputed Heavyweight champion of the world...is LESS of a stretch than that?????????

Except "The Fighter" was actually a decent movie. "Rocky Balboa" was pure trash.

The reason why I'll never forgive Stallone for Rocky V

    1. Everyone knows that Rocky IV should have ended the series. What better way to end the legacy by having Balboa prove that he's a true champion by defeating the seemingly indestructible giant Russian. Perfect emotional high. END OF FRANCHISE!

    2. IF...and I mean..IF...there was a way to follow this film, then THE ONLY WAY would have been to have Rocky retire after Drago and then have none other than MIKE TYSON (as himself in the late 80s)..ascend to the Heavyweight throne and call Balboa out since Tyson was not getting regonition as the People's champion in the wake of Balboa's extreme popularity. Balboa to accept the fight because he (Rocky) wasn't getting recognition by the fight experts (Bert Sugar etc) as being as good a fighter as Tyson. So both fighters' extremely motivated for different reasons..and an even bigger fight that Rocky-Drago is built up! Tyson wins by close unanimous decision...so as to not hurt his reputation (in real life) and Rocky gets a personal victory by pushing this new star to the limit although he's past prime.

Tell me that film wouldn't have been classic!!! Shit..Stallone should have consulted with the one them call Mr Attzs!! :pissed:

You called it "by far the weakest film on that list". For that you are being rightly labelled, by me, as an idiot. In fact..IDIOT was too kind.

It's not what i meant. :giggle:

Just saying some of the plot outlines you posted and even some of the things like "lack of recognition from fight experts" were actually in the film. (Tarver's character)

Clearly it would have worked out better if Rocky wasn't wearing adult diapers. I'm just pointing out some of the similarities since you mentioned earlier you haven't see the film.

Dammit, if boxers are allowed to use as much HGH as Stallone pumps into his body, we may very well see fighters competing into their sixties.

The part I bolded makes no sense. Not your argument but the sentence structure. It makes no sense and is confusing and I'm still pretty certain Adrien nor anyone else suggested he do commercials. Remember I'm the one who likes the movie so I've seen it several times. Also Rocky didn't suggest he fight exhibitions he was talking about real contenders. He said he could make millions by fighting a few "easy ones" as he put it.

And do you honestly think Rocky's going to ask people for money? Or that people would really offer? Or if they did offer that he'd take it? That's not who his character was and you're the one saying his character changed yet you're trying to say he should have done things that were uncharacteristic of him. Plus why would he take clothes from Duke of all people when the Balboa's hated Duke and didn't even want to take the Xmas gifts he brought to their home on Xmas?

Other than seeming a bit brain damaged I didn't see a single change in Rocky's personality. You want to harp on him neglecting his family but that's nitpicking. He made a mistake and apologized and you could see he still loved his family. He tried to teach Gunn to have patience and take the same road that he took, and that doesn't show a guy who's changed IMO.

You claim the acting was mediocre? Okay I'll give you that, when you have acting rookies in Stallone jr and Tommy Morrison I guess you can expect that. It still was a good movie with good theme, pacing, dialogue, direction and it was entertaining. Another thing I can say about it, was it shits all over Rocky 6.

Not true. Rocky's son was going through those problems but if you recall Rocky jr ended his problem by beating up the bully and going to tell his dad about it when his dad was in the ring training Gunn. So by the time Gunn won the title Rocky Jr had taken on a whole different type of persona were he was no longer the spoiled rich wuss but was now friends with the bully, wearing an earring, and smoking behind his parents back. That obviously took a while for a kid to go through that type of transition which could have taken a lot longer than a year. So I'm sorry but I think they actually used Rocky Jr to show that Gunn's ascent to the HW throne did take a while and it was your inaccurate argument that made me just realize that.

I understand people hating Rocky 5 for the direction it took and I wasn't happy aobut that either. But unlike those people I'm not going to say it was a bad film based purely on my unhappiness with the direction it took. Was the fight in the film stupid? Maybe, but IMO it was still a pretty entertaining fight and I loved the way Rocky stood up for Paulie even though he loved Gunn. I thought Rocky 5 was a good film. It shits on Rocky 6 which has lame dialogue, little to no direction, bad flow, and no real supporting characters. The whole buildup during the film feels pointless, like it's just window dressing until you're allowed to see the final fight which in itself wasn't worth the price of admission either. All that so Stallone could put a cherry on top of his bank account which he did also with that piece of shit Rambo 4 which at least was entertaining and rewatchable from an action stand point. But you guys want to hate Rocky 5 go ahead. I'll defend it until I die and I've sat through it several times and enjoyed each one.

The Wonder Boys was a great, great flick which never seems to get its due.

    Doc Hollywood was good too.

Let me try again: Adrian or someone else suggests that Rocky does commercials. I remember this because I thought it was stupid to refuse. And even if nobody had suggested it, wouldn't you think it was still an option? Also, wouldn't you think exhibitions were also an option, perhaps with Thunderlip again?

By Duke, I meant Rocky's trainer, you'd think he could help some. After all, he had a successful career with Apollo and then with Rocky, you'd think he made some and could perhaps offer Rocky a job?

You don't have to explain every detail in a movie but when the film doesn't answer to the most obvious ones, it becomes stupid. This is like in Die Hard 2. Sure, it was an 'exciting' plot when tens of planes circled airport without being able to land, but any viewer starts to wonder why can't they fly somewhere else instead of circling for hours.

Not a popular opinion, but I always thought that What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding Jr. was a good movie.

    Yeah, I liked it to.

It got completely bashed when it came out and I'm not sure why. Despite the marketing campaign behind it, it was a pretty dark movie with some neat special effects.

I tend to avoid anything with Cuba Gooding Jnr in it. I can't stomach him for some reason. Was that the one where he played a mentally disabled dude?

No, he was low key in this one. Know what you mean though.

Actually, both Cuba and Robin Williams were more restrained then normal in this flick.

It's been awhile since I've seen it but I think the plot goes something like..................Robin Williams wife commits suicide and he travels to hell to save her soul. Cuba is a sort of guardian angel along for the ride.

    It's a pretty heavy film.

I'd like to add "The Specialist".

One of the better Stallone movies. James Woods plays an awesome villian.
