This is what I don't understand.

Valero got hype 5 years ago by beating up Morales in sparring, fine thats just sparring, and may have meant nothing.

Many people (including myself) have been fans of his since the 6-0, 8-0 point in his career where he was stopping everyone in the first round.

Then he went on for awhile, to the tune of something like 17 first round KOs in a row. Then he's set to fight Mosquera.

Mosquera was considered a solid champion, regardless of the disrespect he's getting now. MANY people picked him over Valero, and what happens?...Valero goes to his backyard and knocks him out.

Ok, it was just Mosquera, who may have been good, but he almost stopped Valero anyhow, sure it was just a fluke. So Valero continues this KOing everyone thing (although I'm sure against all bums)

Then he gets matched up with Pitalua. A guy coming off a KO victory over Santa Cruz (Yes the same santa cruz who just beat Casamayor like he stole something). Pitalua comes in with 14 straight KO's (including over santa cruz) over the past 7 years, and what happens?

    He's blitzed and KO'd in 2 rounds.

Now step back for a minute and evaluate. Valero has beaten 2 (if you're being ridiculous) legitimate championship level fighters. Not only did both guys get KO'd, Mosquera's was in his hometown after tasting dirt in the first round, and Pitalua's was on a big stage.

Its not like Valero is a Lamar Clark-esque hype job. He's beaten good fighters already, and despite his "lack of skills" nobody has seen the final bell.

Much like Valero Currently Is, Mayorga was THOUGHT to B Some HUGE Puncher of Possibly HISTORIC Proportions...Coming Off the Back to Back KO's of Six Heads & Forrest, this WAS the Case...REED WASN'T Comparing them Stylistically, but Instead on the Level of HYPE they Generated After Some High Profile KO's...

REED FULLY Understands that a Good KO % Generates Hype, but MOST of the Guys U've Noted KO'ed BETTER Fighters than Valero has...As of TODAY, we Simply HAVEN'T Seen Valero N Against the Level of Competition to WARRANT the Hype he's ALREADY Getting...

Yodsanan 3-K Battery, who's better than anyone Six Head Lewis beat in his short career.

While I agree that Valero is still unproven, I still look forward to see him fight the big boys. I feel he's a threat to beat anyone at LW.

I remember quite a few posters were saying Mayorga was nothing but a hype job... Anyways, it happens to almost all up and coming fighters or fighters on the verge of stardom.

People can find posters that'll say anything.

Some people, like myself, didn't think Mayorga would win the rematch (or think that he did win the rematch)...or that he'd beat Spinks (or that he did beat Spinks...and yet people were trying to make that argument, some with and some without the point deducts).

Agreed, and at worst they'll make it up to support their point, no matter how weak it is.

Even mentioning 3-K on this board is stupid. Nobody here knows a damn thing about boxing that isn't on HBO or Showtime.

Tam among others who had actually seen Mosquera fight before thought he'd win.

I really want this thread stickied at some point.

between Bama and REED, there's as much boxing credibility as a pound of feces, but for the amount they talk shit on guys you'd think they'd be right about a fighter more often than LOK.

Sadly not, this is one of many poor analytic takes on a fighter from yuo two, (in fairness among other idiots)

Would you like to wager a $$$ bet on Marquez vs Valero? Or are you going to act like *Z* and just be stupid and wrong about everything with no risk for your folly?

nowhere in this thread did I say Marquez would lose to Valero.

In fact I agreed with you that that was ridiculous at this stage.

But he's (Valero) much better than most are giving him credit for.

As for *Z* I would never give him shit. He's consistently a great fight prognosticator, a sign of boxing knowledge and lack of bias.
