why did you delete all of David Selwyn's articles ?

 

Some articles were deleted from the system accidentally when Buddy was trying to reorganize some stuff.

 

That was unintentional, but I believe Cupey backed them up some time ago. I had read that he had backed everything up, so I was turfing the articles before I realized that people might want to hang on to them. If David Selwyn would like to contribute them again, I can put them back up. Frankly, some people haven't posted articles in years, so I was thinking of removing more.

 

If you guys are finally tidying up the homepage, I'd be grateful if someone changed 'my' profile to something vaguely relevant. I don't care too much about what it says, but it cracks my friends up no end when they read that I am apparently some guy called Shawn Murphy...

Seriously, you guys need some sort of business plan, unless the only intention is to keep the message board going. Giving people no reason whatsoever to go to/through the homepage is hardly means to bring in new members.

Start by getting in touch with publicists of as many promotional companies as possible. Let them know who you are, the role you play on the site and that you would like to be on their mailing list for press releases, conference call alerts, credential requests, etc. That will at least start you off with providing current news.

From there, figure out, who can contribute and when. There's no reason why at least one article per day can't happen. At the very least, a fight recap. If you visit the homepage, you wouldn't know that any boxing at all has taken place since early December.

Well Jake, it is all of this cowardly smack typing on the forums from never been in the past and never gonna be in the future posters that has turned people off from writing for this site.

Once David realizes this and initiates some sort of regulation and banning procedures here, my guess is that folks will begin contributing articles as there are some quality writers here, you know that.

Dude, if you want to write, you should just write. The guys in charge will be grateful for anything you contribute, I'm sure, considering that there is only about half a dozen of us who do offer anything for publication.

No offense Karl, but I have to completely disagree on this one.

If this were true, there'd hardly be any writers at all. You'd be hard pressed to go to any other site, where ANY writer worth a damn quit over catching feelings from negative message board feedback.

Being a writer in general requires having thick skin, especially guys who write exclusively on the web and for publications with outlets for immediate feedback. There isn't a site out there where writers don't catch crap over what they write. Boxingscene's boards are as brutal as they come. But if you believe in what you write, then you simply defend against the bullshit, rather than allow it to chase you away.

Fightbeat's problem has always been a lack of consistency. Guys promise to contribute X amount. Shit's good for a minute - then they disappear for months on end. Or worse, waste all of their time on the message board, and none of it trying to actually find out what's going on in the sport. It's the way it was even long before everyone fell out of love with Cupey.

What you point to as reasons, I see as excuses. I understood the lack of communication towards the end and folks being reluctant to contribute, but that excuse left the moment David and co. took over. They did what was necessary to keep the boards alive; the least people can do is give back.

 

You just made the list, Gladys. You better hope you're not gonna be in Houston any time soon.

Garbage postings like the ones above are one of the major reasons myself and others here, you know who they are, don't give fightbeat coverage or access to any of the top fighters training in our areas, and we also don't cover fights for here any longer.
