Sure it was harder than I expected to, but hey, so was Castillo - and Floyd was still prime and as good as ever at lightweight. Cotto is an excellent fighter and just fought a really good fight against Floyd. Floyd has slowed down and slipped a bit for sure, but much like Hopkins, he's craftier than ever, and highly effective. Even this Floyd is a better fighter than Ward.
Z, you know me, I fucking hate Floyd, and I hate the path of least resistance he's taken since Castillo. But he's still an amazing fighter, and if they were the same natural size, I would pick today's Floyd to beat Ward. Confidently too. If you want to give brownie points to Ward for fighting the best available guys, fair enough, but I think a pound for pound list is simply who beats who if they were the same size.
I'm not giving Ward Brownie points, it's just that you have to give credit to Ward for his level of comp. He's looked good beating good fighters too. How can we even tell where Floyd is at? He's not fighting anyone who has a chance. Cotto is damaged goods.
Hate to rain on everyone's parade, though without reading all the replies I'm sure I'm not the first to mention it, but Dawson was terribly weakened in there from being weight drained and merely a shell of himself. You'd have to be a mental midget not to acknowledge that.
:bears: Decent fight and Ward is talented but......this is Dawson. Dawson is unfortunately just another athlete masquerading as a fighter. I hate to say it, but Dawson looks like a guy living off the fumes of a win that only looks as big as does thanks to the success Adamek has had since moving up in weight.
No. He has skills. Fighting skills are like a dance. Its not good enough to know how to dance, you have to be willing to throw yourself onto the dance floor. Dawson shows up at the dancehall impeccably groomed, but when the time comes to bop his way into history, he slouches off to the gents and throws a few shapes in the mirror before threatening the toilet attendant.
