Yes Judah fades and is an easy mark, just a mark that gives an opponent a taste of elite assets like speed and power at that level. Yes Margarito would probably prevail. Again, no I don't think Judah is as good as Mosley and Cotto and even Margarito.... though I would like to see how Margarito looks against a guy who has the physical gifts at an elite level. Baldimore deserves credit, he dealt with Judah's assets and won. Margarito has yet to fight a guy at that level thats just a fact. :dunno:
dsimon writes: Actually you just said it better than I did. Thats my point. With Judah, if he prevails you had no business fighting at that level. Like Corey Spinks for example. But, for most guys a fight with Judah presents an opportunity to taste the skill level and then prevail as the spaz fades. That experience and Judah's natural gifts are a good test for a guy. Look at Cotto's fight with Judah. A perfect example! If Cotto had a shitty chin like a lot of people thought, he would have been more hurt by Judah's succesful punches and he would have some problems against guys with the speed to catch him like that defensively. Judah is a gatekeeper, kind of what Johnson is becoming.
Yeah, Clottey would seem to a bad match-up for Judah. It will be interesting to see what happens with the IBF title now. Presumably, Margarito will now vacate it in order to fight Cotto. That would leave Clottey as the #1. Berto is fighting Rodriquez in an eliminator, Judah and Mosley have their fight, Hatton's got his own plans at 140...so they'll have to go down a bit in the rankings to find his next opponent.
Manny before the fight: "Kermit wants the fight. He told me: 'lets do it.' It's a good fight but it's a fight, not to put Kermit down, it's not one I'm comfortable we're going to win"
Did I imagine it or did Manny actual urge Cintron to get in close with Margarito? That could be the most moronic piece of corner advice ever. Cintron's only shot was to counter and clinch yet Manny wanted him infighting with Antonio. I think God could have been whispering instructions in the corner and Cintron still gets steamrolled, but good advice would still be nice to hear from a 'great' cornerman like Steward.
Maybe Manny just wanted to get back to his real job - next to Jim and Larry - quicker. Why delay the inevitable?
Judah-Cintron would be a toss up. Both are mentally weak and both get discouraged whe they can't get a quick KO. I would give Judah an edge in speed and defence thats for sure.
Cintron will still have a successful career as long as keeps winning by knock-outs. Knock-outs attract TV. I personally think he would've been better off in there with Williams than Margarito. I think he's a guy with one punch power that is fire to the ice of Williams' non-stop work-rate. And it would've been too by the way against Tony had it not been for the fact that Tony has an iron chin.
Williams dominates Cintron. He has a great chin and throws as many punches as Toni does. Williams would win a cvlearcut decision.
what iota of proof is there that Williams has a great chin? sure he survived Margarito for 12 rounds, but he never held him inside where Margarito is deadly. Who else has he fought that suggests he has a great chin?
Did you see all the shots Quintana caught him with? Maybe not great chin but AT LEAST a good chin. He's so tall that I expect him to get wobbly legs everytime he's hit clean but he doesn't.
Kermit went down swinging, and lost to a better man via a picture perfect hook to the liver that would have made Ruben Olivares proud. He gave it all he had and slugged it out, give the kid credit for that. He'll be back.
I don't know, Matthysse looked like he buzzed Williams several times in their fight and Margarito had him somewhat hurt late in their fight. His chin can be gotten to and he doesn't defend it all that well. Williams really hasn't fought a lot of punchers...frankly, he hasn't fought that many world class welterweights.
:: @ 'that well. When has an opponent not landed 100% of his blows against Paul Williams. Cbheck the stats. Nobody has missed a punch.
If he had a glass chin, he would have been stretched already. That leads me to believe he has AT THE VERY LEAST, a good chin.
Thats a long time. Steward hasn't done anything good for a fighter for a long time. It's about time HBO stop pimping his name.
