:: It said "The Fight to Save Boxing"....not if Mayweather was going to save boxing. Obviously for the mainstream, if one of them was going to "save" boxing, it would be Oscar who is infinitely more popular than Mayweather.
I agree. For whatever reason (fear, not wanting to deal with Arum, etc..), Mayweather didn't want to fight Margarito. I thought the $8 mil offer was phony or it came with future demands, but I think Floyd would've definitely said something if it did so when he was being criticized for turning it down. I would think Floyd would've rather fought Mosley in November 06' than Baldomir, Mosley is a bigger name and probably would've gotten him more $$$, but Mosley had "dental problems and vacation" (i.e. my boss wants to fight him). And for Mayweather-Cotto...well as you said, Arum didn't want it, otherwise he would've been trying to match up Cotto, not Margarito, with Mayweather. That's all in the past though. Cotto is making a bigger name for himself, getting more experience, and Arum may be soon trying to make a matchup there. We can never be sure when Oscar is being full of it or speaking the truth, but he says he wants Mosley and Mayweather to fight, and may use a potential rematch to entice Floyd. So the offers may come now, Floyd better fight them and not have his ego and greed get in the way.
