Roy took a test and cleared himself after the Hall fight:boohoo: Toney beat Ruiz as well but had a much harder time than Jones did. It was an even match for most of the fight. Toney even called Jones BEFORE the fight to ask for advice:cheer:
not sure how it was worded but probably what was meant was an "acceptable" level of testosterone in their systems
I would have said Ruiz if this poll was taken before Toney had his way with Ruiz. The Ruiz win lost a bit of it's shine for Jones (and further proved Ruiz's shortcomings) when Toney was able to move up to heavy and handle Ruiz. Going into Jones-Toney, Toney was a bit overrated, but he was still one of the best fighters in the world and for Jones to completely outclass him the way he did was impressive.
maybe Roy shit an unacceptable amount of steroids into Hall's mouth, which is why he tested so much higher
I feel the same way, the reason I chose Ruiz to start with is I honestly COMPLETELY forgot that Toney beat Ruiz too. That does take the shine off that win, without a doubt.
I could be wrong, but doesn't Ruiz also have the distinction of being the only HW "Champ" to lose to not one but two natural Middleweights?:dunno:
These are good points. However, Calzaghe is better than Toney ever was and beating him would be more impressive (so long as it isn't a robbery). Toney just has too many losses to guys of the level that Calzaghe has kept his 0.
It's a given that Roy at this stage of his career somehow beating Calzaghe would far and way rank as his best win ever. But how can you possibly vote on a hypothetical (and a longshot at that) on a question like this?
You can't, that's why it was just a toss up between Ruiz, Toney and Nard for me. Nard is a better fighter than Toney, but Nard wasn't as good as he became, AND it was nowhere near as dominant a victory as the Toney win.
Ruiz was a bum weak titleholder...that fight was just oportunistic, proven by the fact that he didn't hang around heavyweight Jones took that fight before Ruiz put together a string of solid wins against rahman and golota...he had done fuck all up until that point aside from 3 stinky close fights against old man holyfield but Toney fought Ruiz when he was actually considered a top heavyweight
funny I remember a guy named James Toney that looked like the former middleweight champion moving up to Heavyweight and not only beating Ruiz for his belt but dropping him along the way. Something Roy didn't do.
http://www.livefight.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=547.0 a lil quote from the above Roy Jones article: "And the truth is that Roy Jones Jr. through his attorney admitted to the Indiana Boxing Commission that he had used steroids prior to this fight. Pursuant to his admission Roy agreed to certain terms and conditions dictated by the Indiana Boxing Commission regarding the episode. (Those of you who doubt internet reporting, please refer to The Ring magazine's January 2004 issue which acknowledges and credits Aladdin Freeman for the report)." article on the steroids subject http://www.braggingrightscorner.com/saraevidence1a.html Apparently the only reason these juicers never recieved a ban was because Roys lawyer found a loop hole in the Indiana state testing program and it seemed the test had been done illegal and for that reason it would not have stood up as evidence. Anywhere else and Roy/Hall would've been banned for at least a year.
Toney was credited with a knockdown in round 7, however that fight has been overturned due to nandrolone usage on Toneys part. Toney didn't stop Rahman in the rematch either. Maybe he'll be shot as fuck before he gets a credible win at Heavyweight?:dunno:
Funny, I remember a certain messageboard spaniard, who recieved a thorough James Toney dvd auction arse-whupping, by a slippery kansas eel, rendering that spaniard's opinions about James Toney, completely unsubstantiated :crafty:.
Im still waiting to find that fight that Toney apparently won. Is there any video evidence of this mythical fight actually happening? :dunno:
Nard is most certainly not a better fighter than Toney. I wish some of you put some weight on level of opposition. Bernard Hopkins has never beaten any one as good as Michael Nunn. In fact, he would not have beaten Michael Nunn or Montell Griffin or Vassily Jirov or John Ruiz or Evander Holyfield or Domik Guinn, etc. Hopkins has a cliub fighter's resume compared to JT.
