Yeah in his youth he was a physical specimen, in an era when the only way you got muscles was either by being A) A former slave or B) somebody subjected to brutal labour during childhood

Foreman Didn't Just Sweep Aside Frazier and Norton, he WIPED HIS ASS w/Them...@ the Time, Ali's ONLY Losses were to Frazier and Norton (& Ali Even Struggled MIGHTILY when he Avenged his Losses to Them)...

You Noted Ali's Age, but he was Also Being PUMMELED in Sparring by Larry Holmes...Based on "Logic" there was NOfuckingREASON to Pick Ali and Even Members of his OWN Camp were SCARED as Fuck for Him...

George Foreman was "Mike Tyson" BEFORE Mike Tyson...

The word "Great" and the word "Achievement" usually incorporate cultural significance, events which transcend boxing.

If that's the case, then it's Ali vs Foreman for me, as he reclaimed the throne, did it in broke-ass Africa and beat a guy who not only did people think would kill him, but who himself reclaimed the throne like......40 years later or something.

Right or Wrong, Schmeling was "Guilty" by Loose Association in America...And he'd ALREADY KO'ed Louis Prior...The RE was Very Much an "Us vs. Them" Bout, for the Mainstream American Media...

For the 1st Time Ever, a Black American Had his Countries HOPES Placed Squarely on HIS Shoulders, Against a Foe who CONQUERED him...REED Can't Fathom the PRESSURE Joe Louis Must have Felt...

The Schmeling Fight MADE Joe Louis a Household Name...

Schemelling was a supporter of the nazi, at least during a period of his life. DOesn't mean he was a monster though, since the majority of germans were in the same boat as him, and most of them weren't aware of the atrocity that were/would be committed, or at the very least, werent actively in favor of them.

Whats funny? It is pretty much proven by the archives that most of the german pop and even a lot of important nazi members were not necessarily in favor of the extermination.

Possibly, but Schmeling had the hopes of a far more vicious regime heaped on his unwilling shoulders, and was also stripped of his management before the fight, forced to walk to the ring alone, IIRC, and booed roundly by a hostile home crowd.

Ironically, the Yanks stripped him of his Jewish manager, something he had refused to do at Hitlers bequest.

    He;s right.

The Germans knew very little by 1942, they knew even less in the late 30's....Hitler had been barely in power 5 years by then.

Hitler then sent Schmelling on a Suicide mission to Greece in 1941, IIRC.

The Wannsee Conference didn't take place until Spring of 1942, FFS.

Hitler was pretty damn popular around that time, he'd just turned germany from a basketcase to the strongest economy on earth within 4 years. It's not like you had to be a genocidal racist to support him at that point

Foreman-Moorer. All the other fights are just fights with "climate" and "context" that don't really mean anything.

Foreman-Moorer was nothing but context. Without context it was one of the poorest fighters to win the crown (at that point of his career) KOing a former lt-heavy with a glass chun

Foremans age is an actual number. He was the oldest man to win the title. He didn't KO a nazi, he didn't beat an "unbeatable" opponent with two title defenses. It was an actual numerical accomplishment. And let's be honest, Moorer would've fucked up shot Max Schmelling with little effort.
