Are you already starting his legend? He was hurt good, not just taking a knee for a breather. For some reason the idiotic Mosquera fans threw so many trash into the ring at that moment, that Valero had another 30 seconds to recover until the ref had cleaned out the trash. That was the dumbest homecrowd I have seen in my life.

Besides that I don´t care about Ayala, Ike or Valero´s place in history. Apparently the sicko also shot his wife in the leg six months ago. So this was an ongoing thing, and nobody stopped him and he didn´t want to help himself either. His legacy is that he was a murderer, who physically harmed women and his family for years and then took the cowards way out. That´s who Valero was. An insignificant former boxing world champion, nobody outside of a few diehard boxing fans and Venezuela cared about.

i've noticed you keep bringing that up. based on my recollection he wasn't even knocked down clean. he was stunned in middle of a wild exchange and took a knee. plus, you act as if those fans truly saved valero from being KTFOed or something. mosquera had good pop, but he wasn't some sort of a KO artist or a known finisher w/ killer instinct.

either way, valero kicked the shit out of him. he couldn't miss w/ his one-twos all night. mosquera was tough.

and by no means am i trying to build a legend. while i admit i was a big valero fan, majority of the guys he beat weren't very good and the guy was not unbeatable. however, i was more right than a lot of the folks on here who bashed him for being a technique-less bum who was a KO waiting to happen. if you don't think he was a special talent, then you're obviously a hater. fyi, i was just supporting neil's claim in regards to mosquera being his best and most noteworthy opponent and was responding to mtf's post.

in addition, this has nothing to do w/ whatever happened in his personal life.

Its actually a well-written piece, the best of those written to date...better, funnily, than Fischer's piece on ring website despite their close print association.

The only reason you're banging on about it is your rabid dislike for Hugo Chavez, who long ago joined a distinguished list of betes noire (football journalists, sky tv, jesse jackson, etc.) which elicit from you an almost pavlovian reaction characterised by phlegm and bile

If Valero was white, would he be getting this sort of credit? Of course not. He is getting mad credit because he is a "street kid" from the "rough streets" of some shitehole Barrio with a comfortingly Spanish name. Bottom line is he was a thug and a villain from day one, and now he is being eulogised by people who should know a lot better but who are allowing their "respect" for this "phenom" to override their better judgment.

I dont give a fuck about his KO record. Vitali Klitschko has stopped all but 2 of his opponents and he has fought way better comp than Valero. You think if Klitschko offed Natalia in the morning and then did himself that the freaks and the lackies over at Maxboxing would be eulogizing him? Of course not. After all, his fight with Sanders wouldn't have been good enough to make it onto an 8 round undercard, back in the day. Remember that little gem? Probably not.

If Klitschko had knocked out Hide, then Sullivan and Mahone, and then done his wife and then himself......people would be laughing. Laughing their asses off. Of course, we wouldn't be able to tell them about the tough barrio he comes from out in Kizzisnizzilizzistan because that's not cool.

I'll say it....he was just another macho sicko who got away, literally and metaphorically, with murder because he was a high-profile poster child for some cholo regime down in South America. A little stiff-armed left handed puncher with a drink problem and brain damage, being turned into a Saint. by people who, wait for it, "knew him".

Bullshit. I didn't like Monzon either...and he was from Argentina. I didn't like Scott Harrisson...another drunken pictish celt bastard who was let away with more than one infraction because strings were pulled on his behalf.

In Harrisons case, he made a lot of money, and so people turned a blind eye.

In Valero's case {he doesn't even deserve that title anyway}.....some dog-faced dictator and his cronies turned the blind eye becuase their wild eyed little "Inca" {another title he should be forced to posthumously abdicate} was flying the flag for their broke-ass regime.

Sorry, I am overwhelmed with candidates......can you help me please? What are we looking for? A one-belt champ who killed his wife and then himself and never had any real major tests........and comes to be eulogized as being better than this and that and the other as a result of his being...on a slab?

Is that the rubric? As soon as you have defined he rubric, you be sure and come back and let me know.

    Now fuck off Steve Kim.

"A southpaw standing at 5’6”, Valero had the kind of build that could have grown from his 130-pound weight class to as high as possibly 140 to 147 pounds while maintaining his crippling power and fast hands."

That is what Maxboxing wrote. It's part of the eulogizing process. It translates into their basically saying that Edwin, at 5'6", was the greatest lightweight never to win the Welterweight title.

Ah, the "white man has no respect" angle...

I didn't read the eulogy but salaco is right, you're really making a big case out of this because Valero happened to be a faithfull supporter of one of your pet peeves.

Now Irish, shut the fuck up, we all know how you feel.

Ah yes, Baron, the man with the username which describes his imagination.
I give a fighter props regardless of his political persuasions. It's dangerous territory, take the hatred of Schmelling, for example. Both Klitschkos are massive Yushchenko fans, and I have no time for Yuschencko, at all.

Valero was clearly being favoured by the establishment in Venezuela as he was their little pet. Their role in his death and his wifes death is worth bearing in mind.

Don't entertain Joony. Let him off the lead, like the dog his boy Valero was. Give him enough rope to either save himself or hang himself, like his boy Valero did.

Already Valero is being passed off as the greatest thing that never was....and it's a joke. I mean....Robbie Peden has bigger wins than Valero. His one punch KO of Nate Campbell is bigger than ANYTHING Valero managed at SuperFeatherweight...and he fought guys like Barrera and JMM......Valero didn't.

:crafty:,...observing and learning...observing and learning... :crafty: ,...like an elephant-beetle with a pop bubble-gum head and straw, pulsating the text nutrients out of the pixels,.. I do get a bit nervous though, in past moments such as these, certain mods have trapped the Irish beast in a cage and deported it,.. Hopefully times have changed, and character is appreciated :bears:.

Yes well I am keeping it clean, I have learned the digital shoulder-roll, so to speak, we have Joe Cortez as a moderator, a sucker for a shoulder-roll. I delve into Boxrec and come up with the stats to keep the Ringmaster guessing, this Bear has angles now........

This process started a long time ago at Max Boxing, way before his death.
