You talk about stupid logic then you go and compare Ortiz to Hagler? Ortiz isn't in the same universe as Hagler.

Before Floyd's latest hiatus everyone knew he was one of the two best fighters on the planet. If he beats a guy like Ortiz, comfortably, then we'll know that he's still at his best....meaning he's one of the two best on the planet.

Make no mistake..Ortiz is a solid test. He's a young hungry southpaw with power.

Floyd doesn't deserve to be in a P4P list fighting every 12-18 months....but boxing is so shitty now a days...that if he beats Victor Maidana Ortiz...i would put him in at # 3 behind Donaire and Pacquiao....

Those are not many fighters as you indicated and from the list I would only rank Martinez as having a better opponent.

That's cool, you think more highly of Ortiz then obviously. He's still just a couple fights removed from quitting and crying in the ring about not wanting to take this kind of punishment and questioning if he even wanted to fight anymore. He didn't just magically turn into a different guy.

Do you agree Ortiz is a better fighter than Haye, Pascal and Abraham and also that he is younger, fresher and coming off a better win than they ever did thus probing that your statement was incorrect?

No, I most certainly do not. Those guys all have acccomplished more than Ortiz has. Tell me what Ortiz has done that those guys have not? They all won titles, Haye unified cruiser. Abraham was an undefeated MW champ until he moved up and joined the super 6 and fought the best 168lbers in the world, and Pascal even did more than Ortiz, he actually won AND defended his title more than once.

Pascal is much better than Berto, and has actually proved he can fight at the top level against legit fighters.

Berto is a glorified scrub with fast hands.

but using Leonard as an example was fallacy

Hagler was ranked either #1 or #2 on almost all p4p lists at the time

Ortiz isn't on anybody's list... it's a totaly different situation

that said, part of p4p is a guy's status and accomplishments... Ortiz is not particularly good, but he is very credible, so as long as Floyd wins he is on the list... the question of where depends largely on how how he wins

I don't see p4p as a ranking where you "earn" your spot. That is what the weight class ranks are for. P4p to me means the level of domination you have over foes relative to everyone else. Anyway, Floyd right now is certainly 1 or 2 on that list right now, and should be unchanged after a win over Ortiz. He's expected to win, very easily, based on him being one of the top 2 guys in the world. Anything other than an easy win over severely limited brawler like Ortiz could drop him to 3 or 4 p4p, with a loss taking him off the list completely. p4p isnt about what have you done, or what have you done lately, it's about what can you do right now, and in that sense Floyd is still a top top guy.

Hagler's rank at the time, vis a vis Ortiz, is irrelevant to the point I was addressing though. I was addressing inactivity. My point is...a fighter can prove he's up there as the best in the world in one fight after years of inactivity. Leonard did so against Hagler...even though he was out of it for much longer than Floyd has been an in his last fight before that didn't even look that good. Yes..it was because of Hagler's status...but the point was the inactivity.

Ortiz is not on Hagler's level, but this isn't the point Floyd has been inactive for a shorter period of ime and the last time he was active he looked as dominant as ever. Another dominant win over Ortiz (who's a SOLID fighter) and he's right back in the mix with Pacquiao.

To answer the question, I'd say around #10, 2 spots above where Ortiz currently should be ranked - if he wins clearly of course.
