It's not better for the division. But by their own admission, they don't give a fuck about the division. They want to see the guy lose because they don't like him and it makes them feel better. I want Amir Khan to lose. But I don't deny it. I used to want Roy Jones to lose. I didn't deny it. I wanted Ortiz to lose to Berto and Morales to lose to Maidana......I never denied any of them.

 

I think the subtlety you are missing is that wanting him to lose/being unmoved by him and wanting him to lose to DAVID HAYE are two very different animals

 

True. That's why any set of skills, any set of skills, which does not depend solely on a contingent athleticism is invaluable. Hopkins has it. Vitali has it. Glen Johnson has it. Three of the oldest- and it seems most dangerous- guys in the sport, with a combined age of 130 or so. And Mayweather will have it when he is 40 also......

this is why I get so annoyed when people fail to see that me saying that fighters from 20 years ago were better than fighters right now has nothing to do with rose-colored anything, it is about SKILLS... it is about the cool rhythm of fighting... back then and for really 50 years before that, you had that even at the lower levels of the sport... Roy Jones was brilliant, just as Ali before him had been... magnificent athletes who broke the rules because their bodies enabled them to... but these guys now are NOT Roy Jones... if there were still a good number of real fighters around, these guys like Khan, for example, would be getting bumped off left and right once they started digging into the top 15 of a division... but those guys are GONE now

Yes Haye had to lose, he ah 'captured the publics imagination' with his beliefs and typical of him suffering from the common half-white syndrome, I think his racial taunts and antics did sweeten the deal to several of those hopeful of his success. But, although the Klitschko's themselves are not racist whatsoever, and show great respect to champions of the past (the respect is never reciprocated) ... the Klitschko's do have racial fans, and if ordinary people want them to lose to spite this dreg element, then I guess that is fare enough.
