I always feel enormous sympathy for the loser of a fight like this unless its someone like Zab Judah, in which case I replay the knockdown ad nauseum, giggling all the while

The majority of superfights are not definitive, comes down to split decisions, razor close fights.

I like both fighters. Wasn't rooting for either fighter. Have seen the fight and replayed THE SHOT MULTIPLE times for it's shere BEAUTY.

De la should partly blame himself. He told Ricky that both Floyd and Manny can't punch hard.

It's not just his post fight behaviour. You'll remember when he worked with Oscar that he had abhorrent prefight behaviour as well. Remember how much he felt the need to discredit the skills and abilities while at the same time insulting everyone Oscar had to climb in the ring against? What sense does it make to call the fighter your team has to face a skillless bum? How does Oscar take credit after he wins if the guy was a bum all along? :dunno:

Oscar always seemed to distance himself from that negative speak and I always thought he'd fire Sr over that, but he never did.

It's like I've said for years, the Mayweathers have an asshole gene that is so strong and so powerful that they actually repel each other too.

    I agree with Hanzy here.

I met Floyd Sr. in Houston in 1978 when he beat Art McKinight here as some amateur bouts opened the show and I was one of the kids that won and we shared the same dressing room for the blue corner, and he had some nice and encouraging words for me, and I told Roger later (the night of Leonard-Hearns 2) and I found him to be a very nice guy as well.

I should be at Mayweather-Marquez and will really be looking forward to seeing Roger again as he was a great fighter, one of the best pure bangers ever.

Just because a boxing "writer" (and I use the term very loosely here regarding the guy that wrote this garbage on another website-can we post that shit here MODS? that is trying to stir shit up as he don't know shit about boxing) is tryng to have think that Mayweather is the bad guy here and trying to villifly Floyd for Hatton's loss, you have to be fairly gullible to follow this chumps lead.

I have had my ass chewed out in the corner many times, as every fighter has by my trainer, "Why aren't you doing what we worked on in the gym?"

    That is just boxing, fellas.

Hes just trying to mess the opponent up mentally. Mayweathers are really harmless they talk shit to 1. hype a fight 2. mess with another persons psyche.

So you are saying that Floyd Sr wasn't all smiles and autographs while Ricky was going to the dressing room?

Also great perspective on the ass chewing thing. It's obvious that it isn't the first time we've heard a fighter getting yelled at. Still though I'm wondering when a trainer's ego becomes a problem. A lot of Sr is starting to remind me of Emmanuel Stewart.

All Sr would have needed was a nappy fro/flattop, better pronunciation, and to say the words "I knew this was going to happen" and he would have been Stewart.

Both Mr. Steward and Floyd are terrific trainers, Steward being a Great, Hall of Fame Trainer.

Hatton had already been attended to by the doc, was walking fine under his own power, and there was animosity there between him and Floyd even before the fight, so you had to know that this was it between them.

I'll go you one better bro: Floyd HAD that particular hairstyle you are describing when he beat Art here.

I agree with you as far as Sr is concerned, but Steward seems to have slipped quit a bit. I wonder if at this point his heart is really into it.

This is very simple. Mayweather didnt give a shit about anything other than beating Freddie Roach. This is the difference between roach or mayweather. I am willing to put my house on the fact that when Ricky was knocked out, mayweather's only thought was shit, how embarrsing. Freddie won. He didnt care about his fighting one bit. Had manny been knocked out, Freddie would have been devastated for his fighter.

IMO Mayweather should have kept his mouth shut until he spoke with Hatton first. Mayweather should have walked with ricky in the back lockeroom and tended to his fighter. Instead, Mayweather was tying to save face.

I believe that Mayweather went to DLH with the idea to train Hatton and both DLH and Mayweather convinced hatton to try mayweather. I think DLH believed in Mayweather. That is why i believe DLH was so angry. He probably felt extremely guilty. Unlike Mayweather, i believe DLH does have a heart.

This is a big black eye for mayweather. His career will go down from here. But imo its never really been up. I think he is overrated.

Well, he has Wlad hitting and not getting hit in return, I still think he is on top of it as far as strategy and working the pads go in the gym.

Just think of how old Manny is now working the pads with that monster and catching all of that abuse in his hands?

Not only that, punches stray and hit wrists, elbows, and arms no matter how good you are staring down the cannon.

To go and work that hard in the hot gym with a guy that big and at his age bro...I'd say his heart (backed by a lot of money) is still into it.

His back is into it because Wlad is champ. Manny is at the age now that he is securing his legacy. He doesnt have the heart to raise a fighter. Wlad will be his last great fighter IMO.

    I agree.

Not many trainers actually PHYSICALLY TRAIN fighters at Manny's age.

Eddie Futch, Jack Blackburn, Willie Reddish, Nacho Beristain, Ray Arcel,
Gregorio Benitez, and Bill Slayton come to mind as guys who would work pads at their age, but great trainers like Dundee, Clancy, and Goldman would not..they just offered correct technical advice at an advanced age and had other guys doing the pad and sweat work.

Manny earns his money the hard way working with that brute, and Manny is not a big guy, he won the 1968 National GG as a bantamweight.

I haven't read beyond these first two posts so I may be parroting someone here.

Mayweather Sr. interviewed with BBC after the fight and placed ALL the blame on Hatton. He said he told Ricky to keep his hands high and he didn't. He also said that Hatton should retire. He said "He lost to my son who was the best fighter in the world. But then he came back and lost to this guy who isn;t the top guy. So he has to retire now."

It's not just the division. Wlad wins most of his fights because he's a super heavyweight, fighting average sized heavyweights. He is not great IMO. Can you honestly see history rating him among the best?

    Do you even watch boxing?

What style did Hatton fight Tszyu with? Did that resemble AT ALL how he was fighting Saturday?
