So you're saying the USSR didn't put forth boxers in the Olympics, or have a boxing program? Give me a break.. the "Americans got soft" argument sounds good from a poetic and artistic standpoint, but it doesn't hold up so well on paper. There are far fewer American boys entering boxing gyms than there were 30 years ago, and far more ghetto kids playing ball instead of fighting. Do you really think a Mike Tyson born in 1985 becomes a boxer? More likely he becomes a fullback. Do you think of Ray Lewis as "soft?" Oh and re: Roy Jones Jr & Wlad Klitschko not being in the same league, they aren't. Roy Jones Jr has two legit first ballot HOFer scalps on his resume, Wlad's claim to fame is multiple KO losses to bums in his prime. On a related tangent, does anyone else think Lawrence Taylor could've been a phenom at HW?
Irish: "The USSR had a massive state boxing programme." Loaded Gloves: "Give me a break. Are you saying that the USSR didn't have boxers in the Olympics" Irish: "I don't have time for this anymore".
a comment no one here made the point is kids in america are NOT BOXING ANYMORE that is ALL THAT MATTERS
