In that case, Lewis ended the fight with Ruddock with one punch at the end of the first.

    Moorer?

Lewis also hit Bruno with one punch that started the end. Bruno was completely finished after Lennox cracked him with that hook.

Tyson never fought Moorer so I wouldn't read much to that. Also, if Bruno fight counts, then Lewis' bouts against Grant, Ruddock, Bruno, Jackson etc must count

Open challenge to everyone still stands. ^^

Rahman, Ruddock, an exhausted Tyson after a 6 round barrage.

Show me some more devastating KOs where a guy properly had his legs taken from him by Lewis. Doesn't even have to be 1 punch, combos can be included.

    Im open to being convinced.

I didn't mean Moorer obviously, I meant Spinks. Hey, they're both called Michael.

I don't think Grant and Ruddock count by the way. They recovered from those shots then ended up getting overwhelmed in the next round.

Michael Grant got his legs broken by Lennox Lewis, at least according to George Foreman

If Tyson hit Michael Grant full force as often as Lewis he wouldn't have gotten up 17 times. I think we all intuitively know that.

Guys with chins like Michael Grant? 3, 4, 5 times? After being hit with flush shots?

    Couldn't have said it better.

Botha is a good example of their power too.

Because he knew how overmatched Botha was, Lewis was actually being aggressive for once.

Hit Botha flush a LOT, plenty of right hands too. Botha got up, at no point was he actually out.

The first time Tyson landed flush, Botha was fucking gone.

Didn't Biggs get up a bunch of times?

If memory serves, Lewis knocked Biggs out with one punch.

Biggs had all his faculties though. For me, that's a key variable here. You can catch people with well timed and placed shots that knock them off their feet. You can stop people with barrages. It's something different from the ability to totally fuck somebody up and take their legs when you hit them like great punchers do.

But anyway, Ive made my opinion clear on this one, we've gone round the merry-go-round

I think it's important to consider mentalities here. Just because Tyson actively perused the KO, was much more aggressive etc etc.. doesn't necessarily he had more legit power. Lennox Lewis was a bigger man, with a bigger punch... he was much more relaxed in there and didn't lay it all on the line for the KO like Mike did.

If there was some kind of way to measure their best single shots, you'd have a hard time convincing me that Lennox doesn't win.

I don't think mex is gonna back down, steve. He won't let us Lewis-fans win this debate! But we'll keep trying! :kidcool:
I think Lewis' left jab was harder than Tyson's hardest punch personally. Don't you agree steve?

Unless you can land it in a boxing ring it isn't knock out power. It's like having a big engine that doesn't give you the horsepower it should. Maybe it is a leverage/arm length thing and it was just much easier for Tyson to land his hardest shots, but either way to my eyes he consistently had the more devastating effect on opponents when he landed power shots and really I dont see any other sensible basis for a vote on this

I think if you lined up every HW in history, they'd have a better chance of standing up to Tyson's best punch as opposed to the straight right hand of Lennox Lewis.

I have always been of the school of thought that says Lennox's right hand, when delivered with leverage and his 240+ pounds behind it, was the most powerful punch in HW history.

All of that said, I think the chances of getting hit by a knockout shot from Tyson was greater due to both his hand speed and, more importantly, the fact that he could land the shot from almost any distance or angle. Lewis on the other hand needed room to fully extend that straight right.

Lewis was capable of generating more power.

Tyson, on the other hand, was capable of generating slightly less power, more often.*

Except we're not comparing KO%s. We're comparing what did happen to guys when they did land their best shots.

Their styles are an irrelevance to that.
