I think Valero is another Acelino Freitas. His power is overrated, and you'll see it when he steps up in comp.

In fact I think Freitas was a better fighter than Valero hands down.

I'm surprised that a lot of posters disagree that Abraham is one of the sports' best puncher. If anything impressed me about him, it's his power.

Plenty of up and comers fight bums and no-hopers.

Very few get First round knockouts on a consistent basis. Valero KTFO everyone he has fought, and more than that, he KTFO in 1 round his first what 20 opponents?

And then against Mosquera, nearly stopped him in the first, knocked him down twice and eventually got the KO.

He's got decent skills, but he clearly has thundering power. He doesn't even land chin shots, and he gets people on wobbly legs.

    Kofi Jantuah(who beat Abraham)
Howard Eastman(who at worst drew with Abraham)
Shannon Taylor( whogot kayoed by Mosely)
Edison Miranda( Knocked Abraham out, was robbed and it took monster puncher 2 times and 15.5 rounds to stop a chinny guy).

Abraham is one of the worst world champions ever, William Joppy redeux.yOU ARE OVERLOOKING alot of evidence to proclaim him a puncher. He is a ok puncher but not great by any means. He also is a sloth.

    Maybe.

I can see your point. He looked fantastic that last fight and... his punches are pretty damn straight actually. He has to fight Pavlik... Or some of the other big boys in the division after Miranda who is not an elite really. But I would give him the benefit of the doubt and say he is one of the better heavier hitters.

You can't knock em all out. Fighters aren't in the same disposition for all fights. When he knocks out people, he displays very good power.

Nice attempt at being a smart ass, but there are fighters that only get stoppages through accumulation, Abraham knocks people out cold with one shot, therefore he displays pretty good power. Is that clear enough?

The only knock on the Smurf is the knock that followed Margarito until he beat Cotto. But one can plainly see that he is a big puncher... Baron should not be on the defensive for suggesting Abraham... What is equally funny is that Tam used to like the Smurf!!! :dunno:

The guy has excellent punching technique and I can't wait to watch him against the big boys, particularly when and if he fights Pavlik.

His potential fight with Wright should be very interesting...I'd really like to see that fight come off.

It will be like two turtles fighting each other and Wright's jab could well be the deciding factor in the fight. Abraham's strategy of fighting half a minute every round doesn't sound like a good one against Winky

If we take Barron's point of view.. which I have no problem doing, and say Abraham is a damn good puncher, versus the defensive abilities of Wright... Wright is so good defensively that I don't see how Abraham, despite his ability gets to him, especially considering the "spurts" you speak of, though with Wright even prolonged pressure doesn't help.

Wright is just really strong defensively and is murder on punchers.

Wright will have been off for about a year and a half if he doesn't fight before the proposed January date...and he isn't getting younger.

Thats true but the Smurf is not relentless enough imo to really push Winky into Father time's gear axle. I think that his age would show against a guy who was less of a spurt fighter.

Remember that athletes know-a-days have a few more years on the clock. Especially aguy like Winky who takes care of himself.

Wright relies on timing, though, which doesn't always do well with old age and hibernation.

Last time Winky had a long layoff, he made Soliman look like the legitimate number 1 contender.
