You're contradicting yourself by showing Rahman in the most glowing light. He had no defense, a shitty chin and terrible accuracy. He was stupid - big and stupid. Louis fought several fighters that were bigger and/or stronger than Rahman.

    No way, bro.
Abe Simon, Max Baer, and Primo Carnera were a lot more physically imposing that Rahman ever was.
I have met Rahman like several folks here have as well, and he seemed more fat than big to me, and that is not meant to be an insult as I have always admired some of Rahman's efforts.

Stinger, do you really rank Napoles above Robinson? If so, were you dropped as a child, or are you simply looking for negative attention?

I guess we all have a different opinion of what is or isn't physically imposing. For my money the 1930 version of Baer, Simon and especially Carnera get absolutely steamrolled by an average modern HW like Rahman.

I don't know. Call me crazy..

And in 1939, this physically imposing beast actually got a shot at the coveted HW Title.. He went tooth and nail with Louis for 4 rounds yet Rahman couldn't last a sparring session..

I would really keep personal attacks out of here Zach, in this forum at least lest you want to take a vacation from here, ok?
I have stated here numerous times that I beleive that Mantequilla was the best welterweight ever.
Before HBO hype that began in 1979, Ray was listed third in World Boxing's poll of greatest welterweight ever behind Armstrong and Napoles.
I don't rate fighters by HBO hype, I rate them as I see them and analyze them.

Galento was one of the toughest fighters ever, in the ring or on the street.
Real boxing authorities don't judge fighters by looking up their records on boxrec, ok?
Galento would beat most of today's heavyweights.

So, that means that your argument is basically a strawman argument:
    • Rahman would beat Louis because he would be the most imposing fighter Louis ever met.
    • Even though Louis fought taller, heavier and more talented fighters, Rahman is more imposing because of the way I define imposing.
    • Instead of explaining why Rahman was more imposing than Abe Simon, Primo Carnera and Max Baer, I'm going to explain that it's okay for Rahman to be fat since Joe Louis once fought a fat fighter.
See, I like debating Fighter A vs. Fighter B matchups, but only if the people debating use logic, facts, reason and knowledge. You've used none so far.
To be fair, this is just as stupid an argument as Trplsec's or however that idiot's name is spelled. Stinger, you are NOT a real boxing authority just because you have a crappy radio show that 200 people listen to.

Rubio---You need to re-read my post before you spend this much time on a reply. I think I said:

"I'm not saying Rahman could ever beat Louis"

My point is that there is no reason in the world to believe Rahman could handle a sparring session with Louis. That's ridiculous and it's the only comment I find issue with. Period.

I read very few of your posts, because they're so stupid. Yes, it's ridiculous to suggest that Rahman wouldn't survive a sparring session with Louis, but your argument against that point was stupid, ill-formed and ill-informed. Basically, you suck at posting about boxing, and you probably suck at life.

Yes, I am a boxing authority.
If you don't like it or it chaps your ass, that's tough.
You can ask Juan Diaz who is the Unified Lightweight Champion of the World, Chris Henry who is the WBC number three Light Heavyweight in the World, or young 2004 Olympian Vanes Martirosyan (who just scored a devastating first round KO on VS. network last Thursday) if I am a boxing authority, and they will all tell you that I am indeed.
I have proven myself inside of the ring and out of it as well, and I know some folks may be envious and jealous, but that's tough.
Deal with it, contribute yourself here to the site, and it will be a better place if you take my advice, Zach.
Hey, regardless of one's physical condition, get out and go to the gyms in your area and talk to the trainers and fighters there, do something positive for boxing here and write it up so we can all read it, and many boxing fans can read it as well.
    Good Luck;
    Karl

Not a chance. He was a tough guy and could survive fighting many Heavyweights in the 20's and 30's. However, he couldn't beat most of the HW's in his own era. There is no chance in hell he 'beats most of today's HWs".

And to put this in perspective, imaging the outrage if Wladimir defended against Tony Galento today? People may be arrested for letting it happen.

Unreal how things get hyperbolized as the years roll by.

Tony galento is terrible...that we would call him tough, and suggest hasim Rahman is fat is outrageous.

I'd take 1000 seabiscuit posts about floyd before one about Joe Louis.

Its the same shit, just stupider.

Razor Ruddock would KO Joe Louis in a maximum of 2 rounds

You changed what I typed, Aaron.
Regardless, you are still going to be on the outside looking in as far as the Fightbeat Radio Show is concerned.

Some folks refuse to believe that heroes from the past wouldn't bear up to comparison with their modern counterparts.

Jessie Owens would lose by nearly 4 meters to Powell over 100 meters. Ray Nitschke would be laughed at by today's NFL players. And Joe Louis wouldn't hold any version of the HW crown today. That's right, none of them.

Great picture... I'm pretty sure Ali right now, all ate up with Parkinsons, could give a prime Galento a run.

    Unreal...
