Agreed. There are very few fighters in boxing history that had the Tyson or Hearns type of power.

Duran was STILL a big puncher. Mainly at lightweight, but testament to his punch is that he carried his power up all the way to middleweight.

Duran hurt people and knocked them down with single punches, but the thing about Duran is, he often didn't even try to KO them early. He liked to give them a long, drawn out beating, prop them up against the ropes and beat them more (Moore is a prime example. Duran was a sick bastard.

He was clearly a better puncher than the likes of Chavez. Chavez is what I would consider a solid puncher, Duran was a big puncher, and guys like Hearns are monster punchers.

By the way, Pinks was still a tough bastard when Tyson faced him. Do you remember the amount of consecutive flush shots he took from Tyson before being stopped? It was fucking sick. Just an immense flurry of hooks, all proper power punches.

The thing is, Thomas throughout that fight looked like he was sleepwalking and showed no sense of urgency. It seemed like he'd just gotten up from bed and went straight to the ring. The guy's eyes are half closed and looks to be in a daze in that fight. Pretty crappy performance regardless of how tough he was.

Another thought, how many "iron-chinned" fighters even get knocked out while they are still in their primes or even past prime but still good? Isn't the whole idea of an "iron-chinned" fighter one that doesn't get knocked out? Thomas Hearns couldn't knock out Marvin Hagler, does that mean Hearns couldn't punch? Earnie Shavers couldn't knock out Tex Cobb despite landing bombs on him, does that mean Shavers couldn't punch?

The bottom line is during his title reign Tyson knocked out fighters who normally had solid chins and he often did it in impressive fashion. And the ones that were not knocked out were usuallly more focused on not getting hurt than trying to win the fight.

I think Tyson is often overrated in other ways, but there is no disputing his power.

Prior to the Hatton - Mayweather fight, people were talking as if Hatton was the bigger puncher. The fight was generally seen as either Mayweather winning a boring 12 round decision or Hatton KO'ing him with his big power. I could never understand this........

hmm....i dunno if it was.....i can't be arsed to look back, but i would guess on the prediction thread for the fight, of those who picked Hatton, more had it ending by decision than KO
