Chavez was the same age then as Oscar was when he fought Floyd...sure, but Chavez had a much longer career in terms of number of fights, up to that point. Also...EVEN THOUGH Oscar was the one moving up, it was generally considered by everyone before that fight that Oscar was the naturally bigger man. Floyd is small even for a Welterweight, LET ALONE Jnr Middleweight.

Also...Oscar was 11 years Chavez' junior as opposed to Mayweather only having a 4 year "advantage".

So...it's a clever post, but is it really a fair comparison?

 you're trying so hard today, staff. Just let it go. As I already said, until Floyd gets in there with the likes of Mosley, Hatton, Cotto, Cintron, Margarito, Williams, Wright and them, don't try to convince anybody of Floyd's so-called greatness.

    why not

on paper you can spin it any way you want to in order to fit it in to your view of how Floyd created sliced bread but you know as well as any Oscar is nowhere near his heyday, had not won a signifigant match up in quite some time, fooled the public into thinking he was back with a cleverly designed match up with Mayorga, fights part time, and really if you think about it isnt a 154lb fighter either.

people hype up Chavez to boost Oscar's resume the same way you are boosting up Floyd's by touting Oscar's

It is kind of interesting to see his usage of the word, when he makes a point of stating what most people think" - which was debatable then and now - of his fights with Quartey and Whitaker, but not Trinidad (or to a lesser extent the Mosley rematch).

BTW, I'm glad the thread's author made of a point of noting Mayweather was the "first" to knockdown Corrales...that's the kind of information someone could forget, given how many times he's visited the canvas.

You can search throughout Mayweather's ring record and scarcely find fighters EVER ranked on a p4p list, let alone in their primes...so little notes like that can be useful.

Genaro was #11 on the p4p rankings in KO magazine when Floyd fought him. Corrales was #5 in The Ring's p4p issue for the awards of 2000 (Tito on the cover).

Those are the only two who were ranked on the p4p rankings when Floyd fought them. J.L. Castillo later entered the top 10 p4p list, but before he fought Floyd. Judah cracked the bottom of the top ten, then fell off when Baldomir beat him. Of course, Oscar was ranked for quite a few years on the p4p rankings before Floyd fought him.

The guys on the p4p rankings when Oscar fought them were Whitaker (top 3-5), Trinidad (top 3), Mosley (top 5 for the first fight), Hopkins (#1), Mayweather (#1). I had thought that Quartey was ranked on the p4p rankings at the time he fought Oscar (he was in the top ten a couple years earlier), but I checked a little awhile ago and he wasn't in there. Obviously, Chavez had been at the top of the rankings years before DLH fought him, and Vargas had been ranked in the top 10 p4p before Tito beat him.

talent wise I think Floyd has been a better fighter.

but Oscar has the better resume by far.

Floyd has gotten to the point that he is fightint strictly for money and doesn't care about his legacy. He has the talent to beat everyone at 147 but just wants the biggest payday.

Oscar has always been about the money but he managed to make the big fights in every division he fought.

What is really funny is Floyd says he's better than Sugar Ray Robinson and Ali, yet Sly(his biggest fan on the board) comes up with a thread ASKING if his prince is better than OSCAR. Not Roy Jones, not Pernell Whitaker....Oscar De La Hoya. Oscar wasn't even the best fighter of his generation:doh:
