Yep. Kostya's shot was 100% legit and should have been a knockdown. The ref stopped the action based on Ricky's reaction vs seeing where the shot landed. Ricky responded with a deliberate punch to the balls thrown with full force. Once Kostya got himself together he should have returned the favor. Images of Hatton missing Floyd badly then getting countered can't escape my mind. Even when Hatton's in close, I don't think he'll catch Mayweather as clean as he'll want to and even if he does, I don't think he's got the power to seriously hurt Floyd. It sucks that I can't think of one advantage Ricky has which will propel him towards winning this fight "however" if he wins the fight, I'll GLADLY he crow. In fact, put me down for TWO huge servings. How is that for Floyd hate? ::
here's a quote from hatton in the most recent fightnews interview: It's interesting that Mayweather has fought the same fight exactly in his last three bouts against Oscar de la Hoya, Zab Judah and Carlos Baldomir. He is a defensive king who slips and avoids punches in the first half of the fight and that drains energy.Believe me it is a lot harder and energy sapping when you are missing with punches than when you are hitting someone. Once he has you missing him it takes away energy and then he raises his game and work rate in the second half of the fight. This is where he is strong. In his fights against Castillo and De La Hoya they were close because they got that little bit closer and landed some punches but nothing really hurtful or effective and appeared to gain some points advantage in the first half of the fight but used up lots of energy. Then Floyd came on strong and against De La Hoya you could see how tired Oscar became. I think that this was because of the effort used in the first half of the fight when Floyd concentrated on defense and then gained advantage in the second half. he's not stupid.
Stylistically Hatton can provide some problems for Mayweather. I just don't see him being able to consistently get to Floyd. Hatton has a lot of energy for sure, but it's not as if Mayweather has a history of fading.
the only problem i have with you saying this muzse, and correct me if i'm wrong, but you picked tszyu to beat hatton, i remember, you said he had no chance, like now. did you pick castillo to beat him too? i also remember you giving calzaghe little chance against kessler. you're always extrememly confident with your picks, which i think is good, you are a good poster, but you suck at picking the brits, ::
Muzse is like Double L, he picks with his heart and not his head. As such you can't take his picks too seriously....unless he has no vested interest in the fight itself (I.E. two guys he doesn't give a shit about) Other than that...rely more on the opinions of our premier objective fight analysts with good progostigating records such as myself, Jake, TamTam, REED or Donnybrook...etc Nevertheless, Muze is a highly intelligent poster...and since he doesn't give a shit about either guy in this matchup you can listen to him and his wisdom. Pale Face will be cut to shreds!!!!!!!!!!!
I dreamed last night that Floyd stopped him in the 8th. Backed him up, pummeled him on the ropes, and the ref stopped it. Similar to the Manfredy fight. I know thats unlikely, but thats what I dreamed. My official pick is Floyd by UD.
Now you've got me really worried that Mayweather will lose. Yeah, my official pick had been Hatton via robbery. Golden Snaggle Tooth has had some strange decisions and scorecards this year. But I changed my mind. Mayweather won a 8-4, 7-5 type fight against Oscar and the judges didn't give it to Oscar (well, one did). If Mayweather-Hatton ends in such controversial fashion like that then there might just be a rematch instead. I'm going with the 8-4 type decision for Floyd, with maybe one scorecard being out there (like Kazmareck).
At least you're consistent in a couple areas Sly... One is consistently telling lies about where you stood on issues, the other is being the biggest Monday Morning Quarterback in the history of message boards. That was the case in 2002 and the case five years later. Regarding Who's post...I picked Kessler by SD and I'll always pick against Hatton. :: Therefore, you should find some solace in knowing I'm picking Floyd by UD. :bears:
That was a different body punch/low blow. Tszyu hit Hatton with a borderline left hand shot that dropped Ricky, and the ref ruled it low. A couple rounds later, Tszyu hit Hatton with some more borderline shots, I think it was 3 shots that were around the belt line, and Ricky responded with a vicious blatant low shot. He should've at least had a point taken away. Ricky's ability to absorb body shots may be very important in this fight. Much of the talk is made about if Floyd can take Hatton's body shots, but Floyd's a clever body puncher and sneaks them in very well and Hatton's been hurt to the body in the past. I wonder if Floyd's jab to the body will slowly suck some energy and wind out of Hatton too.
Even though I was wrong, it almost happened and so it's not a shameful pick. It's not like Pavlik dominated the guy and was never hurt in return. If you want to point out one of my BAD picks...point to Tyson KO 3 Lewis!! ::
I'd rather get a prediction wrong and be man enough to cop to it than consistently lie over a period of years in order to project a facade. Pick your poison. :tease:
Floyd is very good at blocking body shots, so I wouldn't be overly concerned about his not being able to handle body shots.
Plus Floyd has taken body punishment from both Castillo and Oscar and still looked pretty strong in teh final rounds.
"I'm a long-time Shane Mosley fan" "I was a bigger fan of Mayweather than Trinidad and Mosley" Just a few from the past couple days, there's more out there. It's low hanging fruit, meaning it's easy to find. :: Just a couple lines you use today to keep your persona current, but doesn't jive with what you actually thought or said during certain periods. Anyway, that's all in another thread. No need to ruin this one with that crap. At least we agree that Mayweather beats Hatton...despite it giving me great pains to say so.
I thought he looked very uncomfortable in the first Castillo fight with the body punching and the rough tactics of Castillo. But Floyd is a better fighter now than he was then...he'll be able to handle whatever Hatton brings to the table. "However" Castillo could use a jab then break distance to get inside on Floyd whereas Hatton and his short arms don't have that luxury. Like someone said earlier, I think Floyd will be the stronger of the two and once he pushes Hatton back, Ricky's a sitting duck. Floyd will answer Hatton's elbows with his own and once he pushes Hatton back on his heels, Ricky's got no means of protecting himself. Cotto surprised me and everyone (except Donnybrook) with his ability to outjab Mosley despite having aligator arms. I HIGHLY doubt Hatton will show the same ability and when you add to the fact that Shane has never stopped jabs properly (I've always said you can tell how well a guy stops jabs by looking at his nose) whereas Mayweather is very adept at parrying jabs and countering with the same hand. Outside of a miracle shot, I see Hatton bullrushing Mayweather early, then getting torn up by uppercuts and potshots over the last six rounds.
Agreed on the first point. As to the second....thanks for the credit! :: Even if we don't fully agree on the scoring. Peace.
