The funny thing about Rios is he's so spazzy looking. Check out this pic, soft bodied and knock knee'd.

Alexander would have been a great choice for his first fight at 140, as it's basically a gimme. The only problem is I think people have finally wised up that Alexander is nothing at world level, so he wouldn't even get much credit.

Khan would be his best bet at 140, I would be 90% confident of Rios winning. Khan wouldn't take that fight though unless Rios proved himself and his drawing power at 140.

I think he should beat Soto up, then move to 140 straight away, beat Alexander up then gun for Bradley or Khan.

Rios' defence isn't that great but his toughness is insane. Then add that to his stamina, power, accuracy and especially his speed. Right now i look forward to Rios fights as much as anybody's in the sport. Hes must see.

honestly he is a pretty humble and nice guy. morales is more of a shit talker

as for rios the jury is still out for me on how well he takes shots vs bigger guys at super lightweight. i have a hard time seeing him walk through hard hooks from a guy like holt as he did with antillion.

I'd love to see Linares against Rios, unlikely however. If Guerrero beats Maidana as well as I think he might, I'd say he would do a job on Rios, unlikely again however. Bradley or Khan I'd make big favorites over him.
Realistically, if he keeps winning, I'd see Arum giving him a top-rank based run to pacman. How about Soto, Lamont Peterson, Miguel Cotto / Mike Jones, Pacman?

Rios is a highlight-reel KO waiting to happen. I think its fitting that he is in the Williams thread, because that's where he is heading.

williams got beat up, but i dont think it was a complete blowout. plus, his susceptibility to slick boxers is/was a known issue. why comeback against a guy like Lara? considering his decline and pavlik's willingness to drop back down to 160, i still wouldnt mind seeing that fight although it's like 2 years late.

bring on lara vs. molina II. i'm glad cintron is outta the picture.

i wasn't exactly impressed by rios. antillon is not very good. i'd still make marquez a solid favorite over rios.

Like I said before salaco, you underrate Rios like crazy. You actually said he would be even money with DeMarco

Rios would walk through DeMarco in 6 or 7 one sided rounds.

He would also destroy Linares, even though I quite like Linares.

He would beat Guerrero too, though Guerrero would have a better shot than most at 135 to 140.

Even Bradley is even money IMO. And Khan would get chased out of the ring by Rios. Even if Khan dominates Bradley and Bradley dominates Rios for example, I'll still pick Rios over Khan.

I guess one of us is either underrating him or overrating him madly in that case. What would annoy me a bit is that we may not find out for a while. As for Rios at 140, he's not exactly marvin hagler at the lower weight, I'd like to see how he would react to return fire at the higher weight before talk of him chasing anyone out of the ring. As for Khan, I'd see the first half of the acosta fight x 2, except with more running and grabbing, for a close maybe disputed khan decision.

ps too bad valero isnt around, he'd have fucked rios up badly! ;-)

Rios looks soft at 135, he's going to be fatter than Juan Diaz at 140.

Rios would beat Marquez at this point...too young, too strong too hungry. Marquez is 35 or 36 and has mileage on him. I don't see a long future for Rios. Not with that attitude and fighting style.

"Like I said before" he's Fernando Vargas 2.0.

offensively he isn't bad. It's his best attribute. I don't think he can do much going backward, he's a straight forward guy. has good handspeed...better than you'd expect for his style and he fights well on the inside. Has a decent jab but abandons it very quickly because he wants to get inside and fight.

The major flaw is his lack of defence. he blocks virtually nothing and gets hit with every punch...clean. Doesn't feint, doesn't parry, doesn't slip punches.

Very exciting guy but I don't forsee a long career when he goes to war like this...especially considering the wear and tear in the gym. I bet he's been in more than his share of gym wars.

with that said...he's exciting to watch at the moment.

I look forward to finding out which one of us is right too :kidcool:

I would have also picked Rios over Valero by the way in a tough fight. Valero was a fierce little bastard, but half the time looked like a wild, swinging bum, Mayorga esque. Rios is a much better in fighter and just more polished overall.

As for Khan, I'd more look at the half of the fight that he was being battered around the ring by Maidana and multiply that by 5. Rios is much better than Maidana and not much smaller. I think Rios is the worst matchup for Khan at 135 to 140.

I actually think a fight with JMM is a pick em though, because JMM is just so skilled, tough, crafty and resilient. I can imagine him figuring out a pattern in Rios, or setting traps, and just countering the shit out of him. Then again he could just get overwhelmed, it's 50/50.

Khan is fucking stupid though, just throws loads of fast, crisp, mindless punches. He's awful when being properly pressured. He looked like a fish out of water when Maidana turned up the heat, he'd be even more clueless against Rios's ferocious yet skilled offense.

Also don't forget, he passed a good gut check against Acosta. He took a lot of punishment early in that fight, and was getting schooled, but he didn't get discouraged one bit, just kept on coming and ended up putting a beating on Acosta.

Acosta is a solid fighter with good power and also a BIG lightweight. Rios is going to be able to handle himself just fine at 140.

Rios is good. The comparison to Fernando Vargas is apt, though I think Vargas was the more skilled fighter.

I actually think there are more stylistic similarities between Ortiz and Vargas.

Rios is more basic than Vargas, less of a boxer, but tougher and less fragile I reckon, with a bit more power.

Rios and Vargas are two different fighters stylewise. Vargas was the more talented boxer, with considerably more skills, quicker, and better footwork.

Rios is more of a brawler, but P4P he's a bigger puncher than Vargas was, and appears to have a better chin.

What they have in common is that they're both shit talking hot heads from Oxnard, with dodgy defenses.

Hate or love Vargas, the man gave us some great fights. Rios will do the same. And lucky for Bam Bam, theres no DLH or Tito calibre fighters around at 140.

What's the status here? Is the decision going to be reversed? All judges were suspended and from what I read this is going to court. Thoughts???

It should be a NO-Contest and immediate rematch...
