gatti didnt seem to have any problems with the weight when he was bashing dorin and leija. maybe he shouldnt have bled homeboys only dry before finally cashing out. instead he chose to milk every last defense.
Again , you don't understand age. Gatti fought twice at Welter 147 before he ever faced DLH. One of the fights he didn't even make 147 on the weigh in. He was over. For 4 straight fights after DLH back at 140 , he weighed over the limit and didn't even make 140. He eventually made it back to 140 but , it was obviously hard for him. He was stuggling even then and now nearing his mid 30's , he couldn't do it anymore. Gatti wanted to stay at 140. He stated this several times. He just couldn't make that weight anymore. Shit , he even said this again for the 100th time in his retirement speach.
Ruiz fought the way he did vs RJ because Roy was able to hurt him. To say Ruiz fought the wrong fight is just an attempt to discredit Roy. Had he fought more aggressive, he would given Roy more counter oppertunities and who knows, Roy might have stopped him. Ruiz was entirely too slow to do anything with Roy, period.
this is typical of the anti-ODH spin that is so prevalent these days. he lost to Quartey, Whitaker and Sturm. and by virtue of the official score-cards, he gets no credit for his fights with Mosley, Trinidad or PBF. so the score-cards don't mean shit when it comes to his wins, but they're damning evidence of his short-comings when it comes to his losses.
That's simple. After 5, it's either 3-2 Oscar, 2-2-1, or 3-2 Ike. Let's go with 3-2 Oscar. Quartey wins round 6, because he controlled the round after the 2 knockdowns. That's 3-3 after 6. Oscar did hardly anything from rounds 7 thru 11. Both guys mainly stared at each other and threw jabs, but Ike did more work. If Oscar won 2 rounds clearly in that stretch of 7 thru 11, let me know which rounds and what he actually did in those rounds to win them clearly. Ike is up 7-4, and then 114-113 after the 12th. If Oscar deserved the decision, it was by the skin of his teeth, AND being generous to him. That requires giving him 3 of the first 5 and 2 from rouds 7 thru 11, both of which is giving him the benefit of the doubt. This was probably the easiest of DLH's controversial fights to score, unlike say his fight with Whitaker, which was a nightmare to score (I had it even). Ken Morita's card was disgraceful, but he should've been banned 9 years earlier when he had Tyson beating Douglas 87-86 after 9. His scoring in Tokyo was one of the worst scorecards ever.
What the hell are you talking about? Did ODLH or did he not take some good shots against Gatti? That is afterall what I was talking about in that post, not any of the other rubbish you are posting about. Although I did say in earlier posts there was no way ODLH beat Sturm, I didn't say shit about those other fights.
Well put. It's hard to tell when Gatti exactly became a shot fighter, since he's taken so many terrible beatings, in addition to not always taking care of himself the best way outside of the ring. You'd think he was done, but he'd come back with a decent or good performance a fight or two later, so it was hard to tell.
That has to be the best example yet. I can't believe i forgot about it. Gatti was going to lose anyway but his chances went from .0001% to absolute zero. Has to be one of the dumbest fight plans ever. And this from a guy who once won trainer of the year.
The worst tactic was Adrian Davis telling Hasim Rahman to stick his arms out when Lennox threw shots at him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI8bBYwLGUA
Ruiz against Roy he came in lighter.....even said he was going to box him leading up to the fight  basically most fights where Ruiz didn't try to have a clinchfest were stupid moves on his part ________ EXPERT INSURANCE
Trinidad trying to bomb out Hopkins with big looping hooks. Morales trying to KO Barrera in the 3rd fight. Tyson not using jab as range finder after prison. ________ LAMBORGHINI REVENT?N
Not to Mention the RELIANCE on Nady's "Influence" ... Jay Nady is THE SAME Ref that COUNTED OUT Roy as he was RISING N the Tarver Fight...He Most Certainly DID NOT have ANY Bias Towards Roy Jones,Jr.... REED
To be able to chase RJJ down and because Ruiz put in long hours & work....but I agree fully with Nobleart; Nady definitely screwed up Ruiz's plans and that had an effect on the fight. I agree with you on Corrales-Castillo, definitely. However, I have always said that if Corrales had occasionally boxed more and mixed up some long-distance fighting; he would have been even more effective (the spots that he did do it in for very short periods; he was generally pretty successful). Peace.
Corrales was quite effective in spots at distance vs. Castillo...and was able to catch him very clean coming in. I agree that couldn't and shouldn't have been his strategy all night, but he should have mixed it up more...he would have had some success and not allow JLC right into short-distance immediately, all 3 minutes, every round. #3 - I rewatched that fight the other day...Joppy tried to circle and he threw the same jab he always does...and in round 3 he tried to get alot of punches off. He wasn't going to beat Trinidad, period...and Joppy had to be in zone to do his best work. #4 - Agreed; but moreso because Mayorga just isn't good at shortening his punches AT ALL (and it's amazing how this is often overlooked)...once Forrest figured this out in the second fight and stayed in the wheelhouse shooting punches right down the middle, he started winning rounds...but too late. Peace.
DLH for a long time now has been inconsistent with his jab. A long time. It's erroneous to think otherwise. Also, almost every time DLH has been faced with accurate counterpunching, good movement and/or similar or better speed....his jab has become hesitant. Lastly - PBF was juuust pulling away from alot of those jabs...he did get hit more than often, but he measured quite a few of those and was getting away from them, just. That's where the smile came from. PBF was also countering with his own jab and right hand. I agree fully DLH should have stuck with it, no doubt. But I knew he wouldn't and that's one of the main reasons I picked PBF. Peace.
You criticize PBF for supposedly "hitting gloves" all night against DLH....and then justify DLH's performance against Sturm? And if you had DLH's stamina at higher weights (and remember this was 160) and also KNEW you weren't quite as fit as you normally are.....would you go out and throw 100+ punches in the FIRST round alone? DLH thought he'd bomb Sturm out, period. That fight was your evidence why DLH will never fight Wright.
It was terrible strategy...and I've always maintained he did it for different reasons that because "he had the fight in the bag" and "my corner told me to". DLH had a freudian slip at one of the post-fight interviews...he said "I was afraid I was going to get knocked out." We never heard that again. ::
Seemed to me like ODLH was too aware of PBF's counters, so he was reluctant to use his jab. He wanted to KO PBF, but never thought about winning the fight on points, which was a real possibility.
I had DLH beating Whitaker 114-112. He slaughtered Gatti (though admit it, he got hit with some big, clean left hooks more than he should have). I did have Quartey beating DLH by one point. All that being said - I did think he lost to Sturm, and to PBF. Peace.
Nah, I take issue with that. I don't discredit anything....but Ruiz simply was not allowed to fight his usual fight - btw, the type of fight that at Heavyweight is VERY, very common. I'm sorry, but it's true. If you're going to a higher division, you fight with the big boys the way they fight. RJJ gets all the credit in the world for that win. Would he have won regardless? Probably. But Ruiz had a much better chance smothering, mauling and grinding Roy - and "falling in" behind that big right hand - than sitting on the outside eating leather. Nady was stepping in AS SOON as they got even close or against the ropes. It's not that he had bias towards RJJ; it's that he was way too primed to interfere....first rule is to let fighters "punch out." Perverse argument, but true. ::
I thought Whitaker beat Oscar because at one point during the fight he made DLH miss three punches in a row.
INTELLIGENT pressure against PBF is a great fight plan...and that means coming in behind a stiff, multiple jab to exert pressure and get inside. The mistake McGirt made was in believing Gatti could exert intelligent pressure. :nono:
Good examples on the other ones.... 2. Violently disagree. Where are you seeing all this success from? Point out the rounds. Jirov occasionally did "ok" in center ring because Toney would not be as active and would be waiting for the counter opportunities....but I distinctly remember Toney being able to catch Jirov CLEAN with big counter left hooks, overhand rights, and jabs from a distance...then backing to the ropes and pulling Jirov in. Jirov fought the best fight he could...and he came VERY close to pulling it off. He HAD to maul and overwhelm Toney to the body (and btw, was able to land to the head too, when he did this). And Jirov was able to land his left from "far away"....but that's precisely when Toney would best counter him with clean shots to the head that drew much more attention. Jirov was never going to make it a distance fight all night....ever. 3. Yeah...but then by round 6 Witter would have been tired too. ::
