I love that fight. I talked shit to Z and Jake for years. I remember Jake sarcastically said I guess you are picking Maussa, Ike. LOL. Great fight. I have probably watched it 30 times. Hell, I will put it on my tivo right now.

When you open up the door to every sanctioning body that has a world title, then it's best just to hop over to boxrec and play warrior. Fringe contenders mentioned in this thread so far should not apply.

For example, WBF...Bruce Corby was 14-14 when he won a vacant title.

:nono: Joppy beat some Asian dude to win the title. By rights, he has to be worse.

Also, I remember Rich Marotta had Joppy top ten P4P at one point.

I know. I know. Joppy was pretty bad though. His best win was over a 50 year old Roberto Duran.

Joppy is also one of Trinidad's best wins, is he not? :stir:

been trying to think of a few more from that period when british boxing was littered with these belts.....Wayne Rigby...he was the first to bring the WBF title to my attention....Hatton victim Stephen Smith held the even more obscure IBC belt....and Hatton won his WBU belt from Jason Roland who has to rank pretty highly on this list

It is bad enough accepting 4 sanctioning bodies, I do not accept those BS titles.

To me, identifying the worst champion isn't just a matter of measuring how bad the fighter was, but also the degree of masquerading that was necessary for him win his title and defend it. And the amount of exposure his reign received. That's why I picked John Ruiz. Showtime and HBO were littered at one time by John Ruiz fights and yet the guy didn't know a single thing about boxing except to make sure he held on to his opponent every damn second he could lest his glass chin be exposed and the myth of his competence, let alone championship skills, be revealed.
