Kellerman is a major idiot. Good riddance that we don't have to hear his nonsensical crap anymore. In the Lemieux-Stevens fight, I remember how he was trying to feed us some imaginary bullshit of how Lemieux pulled out a miracle punch in a fight he was in danger of getting stopped in (when he was basically in control from start to end, save for a couple if spurts from Stevens).

 

IIRC, he had it in his head that Stevens was making Lemieux punch himself out, so when Lemieux's barrage ultimately resulted in a KO he had to spin the result some way to fit his earlier narrative.

 

Yeah he went from a boxing fan to a propagandist.

 

One of the worst things is when he said "Canelo was winning the story of the fight". In other words justifying in advance Alvarez getting an undeserved decision.

 

It's why Kellerman's transition to liberal activist was so seamless.

I think why he gets more shit than most is boxing fans knew him well before HBO and saw his transition from passionate fan to shill. It's much more disheartening.

 

Same. I posted something similar before but there was somehow always a different aura about an HBO broadcast.

He had more freedom earlier to do and say what he wanted. His “I spit on the boxing organizations” rant or just having a smaller show and obviously looking more comfortable with what he’s saying.



He was alright on HBO but you could tell he would try to think more about what to say.

Of course it’s understandable that you do what you have to for the big money but it’s still sad to see.

 

Funniest part was late in the game on HBO when they were showing female matchups with shit undercards after all the top promoters had left HBO behind, and seeing Kellerman try to sell us on this shit. If you'd watched him on fnf previously, the metamorphosis was never clearer.

 

Foreman was so often all over the place, that I would be confused at times what his motive/agenda was.

In large part, I think Foreman just liked being a contrarian. Contrarians often times just act that way to try to feel smart (like Sly), and in this case, it’s Foreman being a real fighter who commentated with non-fighters. His ego thinking “what are these non-fighters like Larry Merchant and Jim Lampley going to tell a 2 time HW champ about boxing?”.

There was that, and just kissing up to his mancrushes (mainly Oscar), or sometimes trying to promote HBO’s big fights. His bizarre “p4p James Page” statement was shortly before Page had a fight with 6 Heads Lewis.

 

I think it mostly got annoying when he said something questionable and then was asked to explain tried to pull rank as a way out. As if his status alone validated every comment.

 

Don't Get it TWISTED, the BIGGEST Ego of Any HBO Broadcast Team Member Belonged to Larry Merchant...

Merchant's Agenda was as BRASH and APPARENT as Any Other...He Was a Perpetually Condescending PRICK For Decades, Who Continues to Get a Pass Despite Being an Insufferable Asshole...

Then he went to HBO and he was telling us all who the REAL WBA Diamond guy was.
