HBO modulates the sound of the crowd in favor of "their" fighter, in this case, the undefeated Cotto. HBO loves undefeated fighters because they're on an unending quest to find the next "invincible" Mike Tyson. Once a fighter loses, the aura is gone, and the myth can no longer be sold to us via Lampley the spin doctor.
It can be if it's a decision. Stoppage losses tend to be a bit harder to shape and mold for public consumption.:: Still, though, Lampley was trying right up to the first knockdown...saying only that it "might" determine the outcome. That's because Margarito hadn't landed anything "big" since the seventh.
i hope they get rid of lampley real soon. his voice is powerful and he does great in those documentaries and pre-fight intros, but his analysis has been inept for years and i just can't stand him during actual fight. i like bob pappa, but for some reason, the entire BAD broadcast just seems to suck balls. joe tessitore would be an approrpiate fit if lampley were to leave some time in the near future. i doubt it though.
Lampley's integrity as a sports caster has completed evaporated over the years. No longer can he be counted on for a narration of what's actually ocurring (once upon a time on ABC he could). He's drunk way too much HBO kool aid at this point, and if I were a network executive, I'd be embarrassed at how transparent it's become. Part of the art form is to put things in a favorable light for HBO without making it too obvious. Lampley, in addition to being biased as hell and a shill for HBO, has lost his ability to mask this fact. It's pathetic. Plus I think he's gay, not that there's anything wrong with that. ::
