Watched this last night after reading very indifferent reviews.
Started off good and really had an interesting story, character development and some decent action all the way up until Apocalypse started recruiting his ´Four Horsemen´: a token Middle-Eastern black woman who takes the original Storm character, some blonde buff-dude as Angel, the ridiculously cliched Psylocke by Olivia Munn and then Magneto himself.
It all becomes a bit silly with them in their outrageously camp outfits and mencaing glares and it´s all a bit comical (pun intended) really.
The special-effects are stellar but then, these movies tend to focus on tht anyway and there isn´t anything you havent seen before.

Positives: once again James McAvoy as Charles Xavier \ Professor X turns in a great performance as does Evan Peters as Quicksilver. Also, a cameo by Hugh Jackman as the destructive killing-machine Weapon-X is pretty good.
Negatives: Sophie Turner is bland as Jean Grey and Jennifer Lawrence just looks like she´s going through the motions as Raven \ Mystique. Oscar Issac as Apocalypse himself is pure pantomime villain.

Overall, it´s an entertaining yarn but compared with Captain America: Civil War, it just gets bogged-down and boring in the last 30 min special-FX laden finale.

Pretty much consistent with what I've read. It was never going to be as good as Civil war but I hope to at least be entertained. My brother watched it and said it was his least favourite X men film and that includes X3 last Stand. So that is troubling. How would you rate it against the previous xmen films?

I generally like them.
I can´t really say what my favorite is, but the standouts (for me, personally):
Wolverine
First Class

I dont like the shitty black\chrome outfits they all wear, either...I want to see em like this:

 

Those were the second uniforms they wore starting on issue #39 (technically it was on issue #40 since they tried the uniforms in the very last panel of this issue...damned misleading cover!)

 

so it sucks? :(

 

Nowhere near as much as Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

But for a Marvel movie, it falls well short of their usual standard...

 

Then you should have loved the ending.

 

It is a FOX movie, not MCU. Just Like Fantastic Four is FOX.

 

Doesn´t matter about the MCU aspect. Forget that.
It´s got the MARVEL opening so it´s Marvel.

 

Just saw it. You know what dawg...I kinda liked it.

I could see why some critics wouldn't like it; a few things slow the pace here and there, they didn't utilize the abilities of the characters as much as they should have done and there seemed to be a lot going on but it was rather enjoyable and a decent plot.

Olivia Munn is my new favourite woman (yes, I'm rather fickle). That girl is HOT!

I'm glad it wasn't as Mystique focused as the previews lead us to believe.

 

They just own the rights. They had to put the Marvel opening logo as part of the deal, but Marvel has ZERO input in these films.

 

Probably my least favorite X-men movie....it just dragged on and on....the story wasn't that great...

Quicksilver and Nightcrawler did their thing again...they were awesome...

Angel and Apocalypse were GAY fuck boys....and boringgggggg..

Magneto Poland story was GOOD....

Wolverine appearance was okay...these fucking X men movies NEED to get dark and evil...fuck PG13 garbage...more BLOOD...

Mystique first apperance with them tits...yum...

I kinda agree with illuminati. Still I preferred it to The Last Stand and both wolverine stand alone films.

Apocalypse himself was rather disappointing. He should have been in battle against the X men. Jean Grey's Phoenix was great but the ending was weak.

If the MCU had made that film with the same characters would have been brilliant. Bryan singer is just an ass.

They just seem to capture the real spirit of the xmen. I have yet to see a film where Cyclops is leading the charge and all the xmen are in battle together. The MCU know how to do that shit but for some reason these Fox directors don't know how to handle it. The opening sequence of Days of future past was the only time in The series when you saw a glimpse of that.

 

Saw Apocalypse last night...



NEVER in my life been more disappointed by a superhero movie. I want the 2 hrs 20 mins of my life back that I wasted on that shit! Possibly THE worst movie of the franchise.


Apocalypse was HORRIBLE! I mean fucking TERRIBLE, which is a shame, considering he's supposed to the most powerful villain in the franchise. They downplayed his power immensely, his costume was TERRIBLE, and he had ZERO charisma!

Behind that, the movie was just all over the place and shitty!

The only two saving graces were the always sexy Jennifer Lawrence and the sexy black girl who played Storm.

Those two hotties were literally THE only two bright spots.

 

No surprise there. You love shitty movies.

 

I still can't pull myself to review this film. Lets say that there were aspects that I liked, but those were fewer and scarce through out the big mess that displayed on screen.

 

Ironically, I re-watched this movie last night and I have to mark it down a few scores:
Apocalypse: like Xplosive said, hideous costume and why would you want to destroy everything on the planet? Like, what´s next in your gameplan. Boring.
Plus, over-powered characters are dull, ditto why I´m not looking forward to Thanos-Infinity Gauntlet, etc.
Four Horsemen: why would he need them? Other than Angel who really was in the comics....they just stand around glaring and looking like cosplay extras.
Mystique: you can clearly see that Jennifer Lawrence didnt want to be anywhere near this movie. She looks bored. She didn´t even wear the fucking blue costume. Plus, she´s now a heroine? And the major player? :scratcher:
Quicksilver: wayyyy overpowered. (Producers probably felt that everyone liked his major scene in Days Of Future Past so they did again...multiplied by 5)
Beast: can now change at will. How? Why? Totally ruins his character...probably also didnt want to be in this movie.
Wolverine \ WeaponX: why was the cameo needed other than to appease wanker Wolverine fans?
Jean Gray\Pheonix: boring boring ginger woman with zero expression....probably did the best she could with what she was given.

5 out of 10 - FOX fail.


Real standouts: Magneto and Professor X, that is, Fassbender and McAvoy.

 

Even Magneto was shitty. But, I don't blame on this on Fassbender at all. He's a great Magneto. Nobody could succeed was this shitty ass script.

While the Magneto Poland story was effective, it was just against his character. I mean, he hates humans, but married one? worked a regular deadbeat job surrounded by his hated homosapiens? seems to be friend with one too and even protected one? WTF?

Why Apocalypse needed 4 horsemen whose powers were significantly inferior to his? I mean Magneto maybe, but Storm, Angel & Psylocke had puny powers in comparison. Is like hiring a midget to be the bodyguard of prime Mike Tyson. Doesn't make sense, plus he hasn't picky: he just hired the first 4 mutants he met!

Jean Grey showing a glimpse of Phoenix here was downright DUMB! The Phoenix saga has a LONG ARC, she wasn't BORN with that. Brian Singer you are an IDIOT! Bigger idiot than Brent Ratner and his dumb Phoenix version in The Last Stand.

The 80's timeline was badly done. I didn't like the weapon X sequence at all and that Jean & Logan had a chat there. DUMB!

We all agree about Olivia Munn's Psylocke: she deserves the anal treatment :hump:

He should have been CGI like Thanos. Here he is one of the Power Rangers villains.

 

I was thinking the SAME THING!

It's like Trump marrying a Mexican, working around Mexicans, and saving ones life.

Made NO sense!
