Well, maybe the expectations were too high. While doing wonderful business X-Men: Days of Future Past, the seventh entry in the X-Men franchise, earned a whooping $90.8 million on its three days weekend opening. That is the fourth best opening of the year, but disappointing for a film was expected to open north of $100 million. This is the second best opening in the franchise with the much vilified 3rd film X-Men: The Last Stand still holding the record with $102 million opening. On the other hand this new film became the fifth highest grossing Memorial Day weekend with $110 million. Not only that, Days of Future Past grossed a staggering $191 million internationally for a worldwide 4 days gross of $301.5 million. At the end of the day this film will turn out to be the most profitable one in the series even though domestically it will not reach the numbers of The Last Stand.

    Godzilla
had a 66% drop in its second week landing in the second spot with $30.9 million for current total of $155 million.

Blended debuted in the third spot with an unimpressive $14 million, one of the weakest debuts ever for an Adam Sandler movie. Neighbors descended from #2 last week to #4 this week with $14 million for a 3 weeks total of $113 million. Excellent numbers for this low budget $18 million production.

In the fifth spot The Amazing Spiderman 2 took a 55% drop at the tune of $7.8 million for a domestic total of $187 million and will most likely will finish its run with a little over $200 million which will be another record low in the Spidey franchise. Internationally is doing much better than the previous one, though.

In other news Frozen has set a new record by besting Iron-Man 3 all time worldwide record of $1.2 billion. Frozen also has remained in the #1 spot for 11 consecutive weeks in Japan with a smashing $193 million gross and counting in that country alone.
