I don;t know if I'd go that far. Two different types of fighters, yes. People keep shitting on Abraham, but he's easily no worse than a Top 5 middleweight.

It's always fun to rewatch the HBO feed after the fight. At the start of the 6th round, Lampley made a comment about Taylor outboxing Pavlik in the 5th which was ridiculous.

I didn't see it as a close fight, I saw Pavlik winning all but the 2nd.

Lampley has kingering tastes of Jermain's nut in his mouth until Pavlik flushed away all residue in the 7th.

 

I think Ortho has chosen the wrong fight to make a point here. Pavlik had his way with Miranda and stopped him in 7 one-sided rounds. Abraham had his hands full with Miranda and needed point deductions to sneak past him with a decision. Sure...there were times when Abraham was backing Miranda up, but Pavlik walked right thru Miranda.

There is really is no comparison between the two fights. Pavlik's performance made much more of a statement than Abraham's.
And this is not to say that Abraham is a bad fighter. Like Jake said...he is a top 5 middle. But...he has no valid claim to the throne unless he can defeat Pavlik.

 

I know I might sound childlike here, but is there a boxing fan on the planet that doesn't know HBO has an agenda?:dunno:

Jake is right on the money about the countdown for Pac/MAB. They act like this fight settles all the answers for the division, like JMM doesn't even exist. But then again, if you were trying to sell the fight wouldn't you make it out that way too?

What I'm talking about is the impression HBO tried to give that Pavlik was the only cat that had the balls to fight Miranda, and the only one that could back him up.

Both assertions are clear Pavlikations by HBO.

Abraham beat him. And he backed him up. And he had the balls to fight him. When Pavlik fought Miranda, he fought a previously-beaten fighter whose loss he could use to forge a blueprint to win. And he fought him in the hope of getting a title fight. In otherwords, he had it all to gain.

When Abraham beat Miranda, he had it all to lose, and he had NOTHING to go on as to how to fight Miranda. He had to work it out, on-the-job so to speak.

But HBO obviously aren't in the business of discussing boxing. They just blow their own trumpet, which, curiously, as Jake pointed out, happened to be Pavliks trumpet also.

As I said Illume, he wins, deductions or not. And what you have to realise is that the infringements took a lot of the steam out of Abraham. Points, and therefore deductions, only matter a damn once you make it to the bell. Having your head levered off by headbutts and then backing your man up is noteworthy stuff. But don't tell HBO. They think that only Kelly Pavlik walked forward versus Miranda.

Against Pavlik, Miranda was a banger that got out-banged. Plain and simple. Against Abraham, he was lucky enough to get his in first, but was comprehensively outboxed throughout and, if you actually watch the fight, you'll see Abe walk him down and punish him even with the broken jaw.

Speaking from a European point-of-view, 'Emperor' is considered the highest of monarchical titles.

Fucking ref would take point for body shots landed by Miranda...after a few times Abraham caught up to what the ref was doing and started complaining anytime Miranda hit him to the body...round 7...11...12...etc..
